Sad to hear about big tony truckboy he was a charactor i met him a couple of times, i seem to remember he married a girl was she turkish or rumo and was having problems with immigration in the uk.
Found a picture of big tonys truck in rumo.
Hi truckyboy and klunk,
I went with Big T ( Tony Gibbons ) on my first trip to Turkey in 1980. I had over heating problems in Southern Turkey near Diyarbakir, so we piggy backed my truck on to the back of Tony’s Scania up to Aydins in Istanbul, who managed to get it sorted.
Tony was married to a Polish girl. We used to deliver empty hessian sacks to a salt mine in Poland and she worked in the stores.
As you said on another thread klunk the crack was great, so I am posting a Mocamp photo, anybody know any of these guys?.
I thought the Komarno pic was great, the third vehicle in the line looks like a Dow Freight box van, was that Tony?.
Also thanks for the photo of John Leightham, and is that you ? i think we met once, you were with Harry W.
Best regards Steve.
The young guy looking round the post at the right of the picture COULD be Trevor Johnson I think his name was,a young o/d from East Anglia I think. If it is he,he had a Transcon with a lovely tilt which he sold to my boss,(the tilt that is) when he packed in.The tilt became my regular trailer.
Wheel Nut:
Ron Hennessy had a couple of tanks based in a yard I worked from in Yorkshire, all the Volvos had a pair of flashing orange lights on the roof and the tanks were mainly 3 pots. 2 for the customer one for the driver
Met an interesting bloke last night, ex middle east, ex Simons International, Grangewood and many other places. we were swapping stories about different people we had met over the years.
Does anyone remember Ken Ward?
I remember kenny, I was pulling for Grangewoods with my KW. He was always so smart we called him the “Kays club book model”
Gerry Holmes
The fella in the blue T shirt at the back is ■■■■ Alder, (Diesel ■■■■) he was on for Tanker Bill and then Lawrabian. And the bloke with the moustache and glasses looks like Peter the Plater who was on for Hicks.

I just had another look at the picture and saw a rather young looking Derek Robbo, middle rightand someone who looks like Eric Owen (front right)
GS
Well done Gavin, Diesel ■■■■ was a name that I heard very often.
Yes its definitely Peter The Plater and I should of recognised Derek Robbo ( Robinson) who I worked with years ago.
I can’t remember the names Trevor Johnson or Eric Owen, but that is not to say that it is not them.
The guy in the middle is Billy Murrey ( Billy Bradford ) and I think it was he’s birthday.
The guy fourth on the left is John Bruce who drove for Astran and the guy second on the left is from down south and may of drove for Tanker Bill, I bumped in to him on a few occasions and can’t remember his name.
By the way Gavin, something I always wanted to know over 25 years ago but I never asked , why was Java John called Java ?, Was there an Indonesian connection there ■■?.
Regards Steve.
its a bit vague this one so bear with me got talkin to a fella at sainsbury hamshall who used to do middle east he said theres a book coming out soon about the middle east with loads of great photos some of them his.anyway he said he used to do it for a firm from the blackcountry and he had a daf 2800 he also said he went as far as karachi during the seventies and early eighties i didnt get his name but he was driving a white fh xl and he only worked weekends and the firm subbed to turners of soham.so if anyone knows of any companies that did the middle east with dafs let me know he did tell me but ive forgot the name.he had some great stories and a really nice fella.

a DAT ATI if i remember correctly with no passenger seat and had a
tv+vidieo in the cab along with the rest of the extras one carried.
