Hi ac1,
Yes you can, the height limit is 5m (or 16’ 6" in old money.)
Just mind the weight limit, 38t max.
Isn’t the Kingsway tunnel 16’ 6" and the Mersey tunnel 12’9"?
Always gone thro the Kingsway tunnel at 13’10" as signs say mersey tunnel is 12’ 9"?.

I think that just hasn’t been updated since the vehicle gross weights where increased. Plenty of 44tonners go through.

Nope, still 38t. Guess plenty just don’t care. This keeps coming up every other month or so.
Below are the latest (2003) byelaws for the tunnel.
Also don’t have your old ridged fast tag in you dash draw when your in your artic, it freaks the scanner out

I’ve always gone through at 44 tonne and so does everyone else. I think you’re right, no one cares.

Doesn’t make it right though.
It’s not right. But that’s all that is left.
Just being straight with you.
And unless they’re going to pay someone to stand there and enforce it, which would therefore increase the price of going through, everyone will continue to not care. Doesn’t make it right but that’s life. People will be people and ignore rules.
Thanks everyone
I thought Queensway tunnel had a 7.5t weight limit on it. Kings way tunnel only for hgv over 7.5 t.
