hi all,
long story short,
got a friend over in stoke on trent (i’m in lincolnshire), he’s got a 2001 sprinter ambulance (EX NHS) that had been converted by U.V.G / U.V modular of birmingham. they also fitted air suspention to the back axle. only thing is is that the sir suspention has stopped working and refuses to do well anything, inflatet, deflate, blow off.
oh and just a couple of thing’s just make thing intresting,
U.V.G / U.V.modular, is backrupt. and he can’t find any serial number’s on any of the part’s fitted on the vehicle.

does any one on here have any idea’s on what could be the issue and where we can get any spare’s for it.

This ebay seller has a lot of listings of Merc Ambulance suspension bits it looks like they’re breaking:

I don’t think there’s any issue with stripping out the self-levelling and doing it manually which would be quite a simple system. Although there might be some brake load sensing function built-in. I put a simple manual system on a pick-up I used for a fifth-wheel trailer a while ago and can’t remember.
There should be a probably 12v compressor somewhere could be as simply as a fuse, start there and work backwards checking it’s filling the receiver etc.
The air bags look like they are normally inflated to me, is there any controls to dump air/raise the ride height, such vehicles tend to be kept simple/fool proof and look after their own ride height as the drivers and their mates generally have more important things to think about.
A starting point would be to find the height control linkage connected to the axle, it will lead to a point above on the chassis, to a valve if the height control is mechanicaly controlled, or to a potentiometer if the control is electronic.
Might dump air when the tail-lift is operated for loading a stretcher. Would think it is installed to lower for easier access unless just for ride comfort.
philgor:

Is that the chassis height control? should there be a linkage from this (broken off?) down to the axle?
iirc there should be a manual up/down switch at the rear
as stated, i would check the compressor is getting power, not sure but i think they relase air through the compressor via a valve…i think the vito ones are like that, didnt work on many sprinters with air assisted suspension when i was at merc, (not on the air system anyway!)but i think its a merc fitted system.maybe worth a trip to a local dealer for advice??
cheer’s for the reply’s, just found out that the merc dealer in birmingham don’t want to know about it
