Couple of quick questions…
-You have to have the headlights on and if I’m not mistaken there’s a switch right next to the main switch
2- There’s a button in the middle for the beeper
3- I don’t think anyone knows that

Don’t want any of that tat.
At least you can turn it off Juddian ,i have to fix the crap ,because drivers defect it lol…Personally there are too many systems trying to communicate at the same time on a network that can’t cope and that brings on all the spurious warnings …I remember when i did breakdowns ,you could do 90% at the roadside in an 1 to 2 hours and off it went no computer required
Anyone drove a merc rigid?

Blindside reverse is indeed very easy with the mirror cam. Normal reverse is hard af though. As soon as you hit reverse both mirrors go wide angle so in some cases you think you’re straight only to stick your head out the window and realise you’re all over the place
Press the button next to the heated wing mirror button (looks like a wing mirror with a curved arrow through it like a smiley face) and it will turn off wide angle.
edd1974:
You could use it. But if you do before you know it your be doing about 50mph.
As your catch up to someone doing say 53 your slow down they slow down before you know it your doing about 50 and don’t realise it
You can turn it off by pressing the cruise control/speed limiter button on the right hand side of the steering wheel (short press adaptive cruise on/off, long press limiter on). Off when you can overtake, on when you can’t/don’t want to.
hipsway:
Approaching a roundabout for example with all tech enabled (default is on) in some cases it starts to slow really early and seems to pick up speed again rather lethargically, other times for example going downhill on the A500 Queensway towards the roundabout for the A519 at Jct15 it brakes too late and too hard!
You can override it at any time. It’s definately too cautious on some corners and too fast on others.
yourhavingalarf:
I find it’s…Hard on the brakes which I don’t like. I’ve let the ACC run as I’m approaching slow traffic with my foot hovering the brake pedal and it brakes so much later than I would for the situation. A great deal of the time, I’ll just knock CC off and coast as far as I can before braking but the Actros on ACC brakes hard and late.
Agreed, I should try increasing the “Coast for route event” setting (right hand side steering wheel, gear button). But then other times it coasts too early.
mike68:
And the handbrake Jesus Christ by the time you’ve done your best Michael Flatley impression on the brake pedal the bleeding lights have changed back to red.
Apply handbrake, foot off brake, flip it to neutral then straight back into drive and it should go straight away (even if the dash still shows the handbrake is on and not HOLD).
Quinny:
when I went out in it, I said to the guy that the mirrorless system was crap. He said it eradicated a blindspot, to which I replied that it hadn’t, and all Mercedes have done, is put it on the A pillar inside the cab.He couldn’t answer that.
“A” pillar blind stop plus mirror blind spot vs. smaller screen (than mirror) blind spot.
Edit on @ 2022-01-15:
Larger.
cooper1203:
2) how do you turn off the reversing beeper
Mirrorless? In the “Operation” menu (the 4th button that looks like a cab with a gear under the middle screen).
This motor must be the most unpopular modern truck amongst drivers today,.I never hear any driver saying ‘I love my Actros’…is it only this country where drivers think they are crap or what. I wonder what German drivers think of it for. instance.
I don’t suppose Mercedes give a ■■■■ if operators are buying them, but I wonder if they are aware of the general opinion of their truck amongst drivers.
They must get some feedback from their service agents and main dealers who speak to drivers.
I’ve had them since 2013, it was a shock to the system coming off a DAF , but I suppose I’m used to it now…a bit like you get used to niggling toothache.
Anyone know what kind of lead you need for the iPhone for the connection in these new Mercs?
I’ve had the bad luck of been given one and the usb charge point at the side of the dash doesn’t fit the usual IPhone lead…

I’ll guess then it’s a USB type C port, which has rounded edges unlike the usual USB port which would be rectangular.
You’ll get an adaptor or cable from the usual places, eBay , Amazon etc.

From memory I think it’s micro USB. Gladly I haven’t driven one of those pieces of crap for a long time and hope never too again.

Guy in phone shop said it will be indeed a USB-C cable so I’ve got one today,I’m out in it in morning so I’ll give it a go…
Cheers for the info…

Yes, Norb, thankfully i can turn everything off except AEBS, though wouldn’t switch it off anyway, cos you just know i’d be to blame whatever the circs if something happened.
But for the rest of the crap, so long as i’m responsible for the vehicle i’m driving it not some bloody box of electrics.
Can’t wait to see driverless wagons out on the road, i’ll get a stripey jersey a pair of shades and a bag marked swag, there’ll be so many broken down with umpteen fathomless faults waiting for blokes like you to turn up that you’ll be able to do all your shopping with a pair of bolt crops and stanley knife

Unless they have changed it on newer models then it won’t be USB C. It’s actually mini USB not Micro USB. All the 17 plate onwards ONES I’ve seen have been mini USB.

That kinda shows you up to being a bit useless. A good driver would leave a big gap and maintain a steady speed in one gear, not “100s”. I’m as lazy as they get but would still prefer to take a ZF16 manual over any auto. Heavy traffic in particular is where a lot of the truck auto boxes show themselves up.That kinda shows you never drove a manual gearbox. How do you leave a big gap and maintain a steady speed in one gear on the M62 around the top of Manchester or the M42 or M6 around Birmingham in the middle of rush hour? I’ve never had an auto box show itself up in heavy traffic in the 15+ years I’ve driven them.
Are you serious? I for one always managed to do it. You can see what’s happening up the road and hardly ever have to slow. Leave it in the low end of high range and relax. You’ll get the odd muppet in a car or white van jump in, but if you’ve done it right that’ll be no trouble.

Indeed. It boggles my mind that so-called professional drivers don’t even know these basics. He’ll be one of them clowns that floors the truck every time the traffic moves, only to slam on the brakes 5 seconds later when the car in front stops again.
DCPCFML:
Not sure if serious or just being a bit dumb ? Big gap + steady speed = only need one gear
And that last sentence demonstrates you’ve never driven a lorry. If you do that on any UK motorway in rush hour it’ll be filled with a car or several cars.
If you’ve never had an auto box show itself up in 15 years of driving in traffic then you’ve clearly never driven a loaded tanker.
Not only have I driven tankers I’ve driven unbaffled milk tankers for Arla.

And what’s the problem with that? One or two cars changing lanes in 50 yards of empty tarmac in front of you makes zero difference. You really are completely clueless on how to drive smoothly and the only thing you’re achieving here is making yourself look a complete idiot, as usual. Probably best you pipe down until you get some experience and know what you’re talking about.

So have I, which is why I know your claim of “I’ve never had an auto box show itself up” is a load of ■■■■■■■■.

It was suggested to me that i use this system rather than the old fastioned way of planning ahead and controling the lorry properly.question is who here would trust the system enough to use it?
Me. I’d give it a go and when happy with it use it. Anything to make life easier. The lorries I drive have adaptive cruise control on which is fantastic in roadworks and built up traffic, you just set the cruise control and just let the truck control the speed and gap between you and the vehicle in front so no constantly speeding up and slowing down on the brakes etc, just sit there pointing the thing where it needs to go. Wish my car had it.
Never understood the attitude with some drivers wanting to make the job harder than it needs to be. I don’t know of anyone in any other field where they complain about stuff brought in to make their working lives easier and want to go backwards and do things the harder way.
Ah yes the Howdens CF. And you disengage when you want to overtake on the motorway?

Deffo USB-C lead, used it today and works with the Apple Car play thing…
The truck is absolute garbage though, talk about designed in a coffee break,I’d sooner have the old axor then these.
I hit a bump and it threw my travel mug and tea all over, the ride is shocking

Well I stand corrected said the man in orthopedic shoes.
Must have changed it and some point to USB C then.
My truck is in for MOT this week so I was asked if I wanted a 21 plate demo mirrorless monstrosity.
It’s a 480 and couldn’t pull itself out of bed.
The cameras do unfortunately have a serious problem with any vehicle fitted with LED running lights/headlights, they flash continuously which when your looking to change lanes is quite a challenge especially when natural light is limited [emoji85]
Reversing using the mirrors is a challenge, I will probably 90% of the time reverse via my mirrors but these are a bugger, yes blindsides are easier with the camera following the arse end but I’ve purposely chosen to reverse park rather than drive in to try to master the mirrors but…nope not yet [emoji848]
I will add that I’ve been driving trucks for near on 30 years and it’s more frustrating than anything else, last day in it 2mrw and I will be trying again [emoji1696]
Also the Merc is the most uncomfortable truck I have ever had the displeasure to drive.
Yep no 12v sockets anymore and a stupid mini USB thingy (luckily i blagged the Merc adapter that the sales guy had in his bag) god knows how much they are from the dealer [emoji54]
Pros
Tech I think is good ( built in WiFi etc) screens I could get used to, hill assist is great also night heater and timer work great.
