Medical test question

Hello everyone, im new here and hoped I might find some clarification on the medical test, to cut a long story short I used to be almost 30 stone so not in great shape, I’ve spent the last 18 months losing weight and im down to 16 stone 13 lbs, but at 6’ 2" Im 3 stone over weight still I was looking to start training in may this year and Im Worried that my weight will prevent me from doing that, but I’ve scoured the net and found no real definitive answer can anyone here help?

Thanks

AJ

Your weight, on it’s own, isn’t an issue. But watch your blood pressure - you probably already do.

I used to be a little on the large side (we wont go there thankyou!) and all that time I held HGV and PSV licences.

I suggest a blood pressure check then go for it.

All the best, Pete

As Pete said, DVLA Medical Dept won’t really care how heavy you are as long as your blood pressure is ok.

as above ,im 5ft 10 in and 16 stone . had a medical a couple of weeks back my weight wasn’t mentioned but I was put on tablets to reduce my blood pressure , I have to go back in a few weeks to check it has gone down .

Thats great thanks! I had a check up at my GP 2 weeks ago and my BP was perfect. Im very relieved to hear that though so its probably even better right now haha. Thanks for the replys everyone!

Well done on the weight loss by the way!

As said your weight is the least of your problems

Yeah my family said the same thing, when I started out I was aiming for 12 stone but now I think that would be a bit too thin, I hit a plateaue last year and my weight hasn’t moved since no matter what I do, thats why I was a bit worried incase they wanted me to lose the 3 stone because I cant see it going anywhere anytime soon, but I feel ok as I am.

Pay more than £60 for the D4 medical = being ripped off

Problem with BMI is it only works for average hight people to much emphasis is placed on it as you say they should check for body fat % as well as BP & heart rate resting

BMI was first created around 1830, getting on for 200 years ago. IMO it is very outdated and doesn’t take into account a persons actual body fat % and overall fitness.

That’s what I think too, technically you get a body bulider my height weiging in at 19 or even 20 stone and based on their BMI thing they would show up as obese. The medical is part of the corse deal I was looking at £40 and £1295 all in with a company in Wolverhampton

That’s true, my local training, TV celebrity and army challenge lady runs 7 or 8 fitness classes a day has just posted her latest health check, she is bordering on obese, there is not an ounce of fat on her

aj1982,have you had the cholestrol level measured. If too high it can be treated with Statins or Phenofibrates.
There is good and bad cholestrol.
Ldl and Hdl.
Trygliceride levels if too high cause heart attacks or strokes.
A low dose of an Aspirin a day can thin the blood.
When feeling hungary drink lots of water.
Bin the garage food, crisps and chocalates.
Muesil bars are good if miss breakfast.
Porridge is good for cholestrol.

Cholesterol can also be brought down be diet
