pm sent m8

I have no knowledge about them however am interested also if you could pm me seth

It wasnt about mcdowell m8 ,it was another c2 job/

I would guess it will be Original Factory Shop store deliveries from what I’ve seen on their vehicle livery.

This one is loading in Sanquhar with EME school and office furniture some also carry advertising for Flexiform. They recently got an operators licence for 4 or 5 to be based here. But I don’t know what they will be like to work to. Eddie.

Terrible hourly rate, go through a lot of drivers, I’d stay clear of the keighley haulage firms

Sounds like a typical Tight â– â– â– â– â– â– â–  Haulage Company

Well i put my CV in for the job despite all the negativity, simply because its my foot in the door and I get to be a berk in a merc :unamused:  But I’m unsure at the moment as to what i should do.

They rang me this morning to my surprise as I thought it probably wouldn’t get looked at, with my age and no experience…well non that I can put down on a CV anyway  This is where it gets interesting :unamused: and somewhat not got a clue what to do. I was told due to my lack of experience I would have to sign up to their agency on a temp to perm basis. Which to me basically says, were gonna put you on agency and get rid of you when we feel like it as previous experience suggests that’s all that usually happens if your face doesn’t fit. I was assured the only reason this would happen is to see how i get on with the job and whether I’m liking it etc. But I’m unsure if to believe that or not. So I should ask if anyone’s been through this route with them? On a plus side they said they were going to arrange for my Mod 2 & Mod 4 to be completed which i would say would be done back end of July.

I’m thinking, as in August I have about 3 weeks off my current job due to going away for my birthday, I’m wondering if I should trial the job for three weeks and see then if they will take me on (fat chance i know…) or just keep looking, I cant afford to take an agency job on the off chance ill be kept on but on the other hand seems like the ideal start if everything went to plan but with my luck i wouldn’t say it would  Although i could still do the three weeks to get a little extra pocket money and a little experience then move on if there’s nothing permanent.

Any advice welcome

Cheers

if they wanted to take you on they’d just do it, not put you through an agency.

Don’t be fooled into thinking they give the slightest ■■■■ about whether you’re enjoying the job or not.

This x 10 ^^^^^^^

I’d tell them to swivel. At least, don’t take it. They want someone very cheap that they can boot, if and when it suits them, and without issue.

Steer clear.

Cheers for that, as i said i didn’t know whether to believe it or not more to get bums on seats and get rid when no longer required.

Oh well back to the old drawing board

Tell them to shove it pal, they don’t give a toss, keep knocking on doors and someone will give you a chance, don’t try joker sorry joda or that other shower Nelsons, try going towards bradford way, plenty of firms over that way

You get paid more working for the agency then mcdowells themselves if you bring the wagon back in one piece they will offer you a job. Thats if its in one piece before you leave the yard. They are really desperate for drivers and will take anyone on.
You shouldn’t have made an issue out of lack of experience it’s just general haulage easy stuff really. It’s a foot in the door like you say?
They have a training school and will put you through all your tests if you stick it out.
Good Luck

The pay must be below 7 quid an hour for rigids, I think the class 1s are on 7 quid, can’t understand why people work there when there’s other firms that pay a lot better not far from there.

We all got a start somewhere?
Maybe when he gains more confidence and experience he can move on to these top payin firms you mention.

Or by working for the firm that pays low wages they can get more work and start encroaching into the good paying firms territory which in turn loses work, which then has to either cut wages or close altogether. So we all end up racing to the bottom.

Market forces I suppose.

Good luck genuinely though in which ever job you take, but the agency option does stink a bit IMHO.

The question is though what are the chances theyll offer a job from the agency? Taking her word for it, I should be offered a full time position after a few weeks, but as said above if they wanted to take me on as a permanent employee they would without the need for agencies. Or is it a test to see if I’m going to be a yes man or whether I’m going to be trouble. And I’ve been both of the yes man and trouble both ending up in the same position…down the job centre looking for another job :unamused: I suppose I could say they have them 3 weeks in August to decide or not if to give me a job or not :unamused:  Either way its a little money in my pocket for my birthday trip to sunny Scotland and a little experience driving a rigid.

As for the ‘■■■■’ wages, anything will be an improvement on my £18,000 a year salary at the moment so I can’t grumble. But I won’t give that up until I know I have a permanent job earning more and preferably more local to where I work now as I’ve often jumped the gun in the past and has got me in trouble so although i may sound like an annoying git its merely securing whether its a good or a bad move
