Max. speed limit?

While on holiday in Estonia and driving a hire car, I was surprised to be overtaken by trucks when I was already doing 90kph - and that was on a single carriageway road!

I thought that the 56mph/89kph limiter on UK trucks was Europe wide, part of the same regulations that introduced the tachograph; to ensure a level playing-field. So, how come some countries seem to have a very different maximum speed limit?

have a holiday on the A 75 and see how that compares…some of us have a place to go and want to get there…

The limiter is 90kph throughout euroland. See here for Estonian speed limits.

Unless my hire car speedo was under-estimating (it was digital!) I seriously doubt those truck limiters were operational. That said, I can’t be completely sure those that overtook me were from within or without the EC.

It probably was.
Car speedos tend to be less accurate than trucks which are regularly calibrated.
The GPS on my sat nav will show 56 in the truck the same as the speedo reading, but 56 on my car’s speedo will show 52-53 on the sat nav.

I’d guess the speedo on the hire car was way off as well. I couldn’t even get the guy doing the calibrating to make the truck run at 92kph last time, 90 (not 89 anymore) is the maximum.
