You have a better memory than me mate but as soon as you said their names it all comes flooding back. I remeber having George (Giddyupp) Geddes at my house when I lived in Farnworth after he had fell of a load at ICI Thornton. After we had eated I ran him back to Hull. He limped for months after that but as soon as he got his compen the limp went I also remeber Derreck, he had moved from Hull and was living in a flat in MK when he died. I brought his furniture back to Manchester in a 30ft container for his wife who lived there but they had split up. I also remeber Terry in traffic, I remeber he was very naughty once and left Len Terry lived not far from me when I lived in Lancashire, he was just up the road in Heywood. Those were the days my friend (I think Mary Hopkins may have said that as well)

Hullo Carlc, I have been daydreaming during the night, that,s what you do in NZ. The fellow that used to do his dosh on the Tables on the Ferry, was Johnny Nightingale. Then with us in those days were Angus Sutie, Peter & John Etherington, Johnny Southern (he had the first sleeper cab Scania, put together in the Workshops in Hull) The bloke that I said came from Arrow Bulk, did,nt. He was from Key Transport, a tall bloke with wavy fair hair and rimless glasses… He may have been called Norman. Not of course Norman Olsen, this one was a really nice quiet Norwegian/Hullie, who came from Wake Bros. He had been the Road Foreman on the fruitless adventures of Nigerian Transport. Huttons and wakes I believe , Hull to Lagos (Disaster). The bloke that came from Arrow Bulk used to deliver our diesel to the Yard, he wanted to go abroad so he kept on at Dereck Heron about it, and in the end he got his wish. That was John Hailstones, a big bloke, bit of a Tash and quite vocal. Then there was also Ned Kelly. I,m fairly sure I can think of a few more yet. Cheers, Archie.
I was tring to think of the guys name who was shop steward for the UK lads at Hull, he smoked Cigarelos those bloody things that looked like ■■■■ but were cigars. There was also a Subby called John Hornsby from out Linconshire way, ex RAF. I remember the guy from Hull who sold his load of copper coil from BICC Prescot, he sold it in Manchester but he got caught, you will know him but I am not going to say who it was (embarrasing for him).I remeber Norman, very serious kind of guy but also an OK guy. There was also Bill Bailey, had an old Dodge camper. Can you remeber the Father and son who ran an old Atki and used to get all the heavy stuff?

Hullo again, Yes of course Bill Bailey, I bumped that old Camper van one day. He,d parked it in the first space just past the diesel pump. I was coming out and getting round the corner of the Worksshop, I was watching the corner very carefully on my right hand side, then as I looked in my nearside mirror I saw the overhang at the nearside front of the trailer had picked up his Camper, it was off the ground by about two foot. He was away at the time, when he came back Dereck Heron tore him off a strip and said never to put it in the yard again. Was the. Bloke with the ■■■■ Alec Shand, as he was the Shop Steward. The only Father and Son that I can remember was Arthur Kirk and young Arthur Kirk, but they both had really nice Scanias. Later though when Gelders at Hessle Road Flyover went bang, John Stone got the Wilkinsons in, they were from Holme on Spalding Moor, they were aFather two Sons and their driver Ted, they had some older tackle, but mostly Volvos as I recall. Cheers, Archie.
Archie
I remember the Kirks, Young arthur named his motor “Starship Enterprise” for obvious reasons. But there motors were in good order. I remember the Wilkinsons as well. Barry ran the show on the road but I think Alf still had his hand in the job at the garage. These other two with the old Atki ran it for quite some time and then the son got a unit of his own, I think it was an F10. Lost toutch with all the Manchester lads but we are in the process of moving back over the other side of the hills when I retire so I may meet up with some of them. We had Charlie Meehan and his brother in law Dave Lister, Mick Seager, Jim Murry, George English, Tony (Bump a Day) Boylen, Reg (Demolition Derby) Jacklin, Kev Morrow, Ted ■■?, Ted Goldsmith and a few more that I can’t remember.

One of Alfs lads was married to someone in the MAT office if I remember. Was that Barry?
Hiya Wheel Nut, Yes it was Barry. I never thought for one minute that Barry would ever get married but he did. I can’t remember her name but she was a very nice and shy sort of a lady but Barry swept her off her feet, he put a few dabs of diesel behind each ear and went for it.

By the way Carl do you remember Charlie ? I can,t recall his second name, had no woof to his mouth and used to talk a bit funny. There are stll loads we have,nt thought of yet I think. Hullo “magnum mark”,
I remember Graham Hague, Peter Dinsdale and Mike Blakestone from the offices. I know Graham and Peter went of to help set up Middlegate. Mike Blakestone had blond hair when I knew him, he sat opposite Ian McInley, who went on to become the big cheese at Britania Frieght I believe. It was these two blokes that used to sort out my work when I first subbed there. Mickey Bolder I remember, Charlie Lockman ? was this the bloke I was trying to recall, the bloke with no roof to his mouth I wonder. Joe Jakes I,ve mentioned before I knew him and his Father, who was the yard Foreman. I lent Joe my car to go on holiday one year. The last time I saw hin was in Keskemet years ago. The only Subbies in the yard after Dereck Heron took over from Cliff was John Hornsby and me. Later came The Kirks, Colin Ewan and the Holme on Spalding Moor Gang
Cheers, Archie.
Archie
Spot on with Charlie Edwards. There was another driver who had no teeth and his nickname was " Wobble Gob" I can’t remeber his name. Can you remeber the driver who nicked the radio out of his F7 and then fit that into his car. He also took the tax disc out of the motor and put it in his car when he went home at night and weekends. You could not script some of the things that went on.
Cliff
Rick
Good man I thought I was going bloody mad when Archie said he did’t know them. I remeber the Atki was a very light unit and he used to pull a lot of overweight trailers. I just remebered another Manchester driver, Pete Jones.
