Hi cartran
1975/6 MAT MIFT trailer park. A MAT flat 12 mitre flat trailer was parked up with no ropes and two brand new badly ripped sheets with washers slid onto 6 inch nails and hammered to bed of trailer. I remember the then traffic manager (Boris) Les Bickerdyke strolled down to see it with (yardman) Gordon Nunn were none too pleased.
I believe it was loaded abroad in this state and dropped off that day by Felgates Barking. I am sure Carl or Dave Lister would remember this. Kev

Les and Gordon Nunn Eh ? I’ll bet Nunny soon had the job all in hand didn’t he ? I haven’t seen Carl on here for a few months now. I hope he’s enjoying life now he’s retired. Not seen Dave for years.

Hiya,
I wonder why there are seldom seen any of W H Bowker’s motors pulling MATs trailers they did
lots of work and the Mat logo was even incorporated into their livery I personally did a lot of
UK work for them pulling their tilts (shudder) I’d rather load, and rope and sheet a flat trailer
anytime but most of the stuff having been taken to or collected in my case mainly from Dover
was coming or going to the Continent so it was always tilts happy day’s though.
thanks harry, long retired.Hullo Harry,
You should know, I think that’s A.S. An ex Bowker man, it must have been taken more than 35 years ago. I think he was at Hull a Ship Stores before MAT What do you think, just a bit unsure of the glasses though.
Hiya,
Sorry Archie I missed your post earlier, it does look like Angus but on thinking back it’s around
1968 the last time I ran with Angus and although we were both still at Bowker’s for a while I
don’t recall “bumping” (not literally) into him after that time, nice lad was Angus but never
got on with his buddy Cliff and but for the intervention of a couple of drivers in Bowker’s yard
would have thumped him and all because I had the audacity to move his Vabis off the pump
so’s I could put fuel in my own motor, that’s my motor says he and only I drive it, so long as it
says Bowker on’t door says I and me being a Bowker driver I’ll move it if it’s my way, but Cliff
being one of the star drivers would have been OK and me being a lowly Brit only lad would be
the one who got the push, no Cliff and me were like oil and water we didn’t mix.

Hullo Harry,
I like your story, I can just imagine that happening Yes they were a bit thick were Angus and Cliff as you say. But I only knew them from my days subbing for MAT out of the Hull Depot. Cliff left MAT to go to. Mc Greggors, ( I think ) at Bradford, I know where he went, but at this very moment in time I completely forget the name. Then after I left MAT to go onto Whittles of Preston, I never saw either of them, until one day I was on a Ferry from Zeebrugge to Dover and I met up with Angus, he was on for some Fridge firm from down South, chasing about like those blokes on Fridges had to, and he looked really I’ll, not the same bloke at all. I never saw him again, and of course he later passed away R.I.P…
p.s. I don’t know what happened to Jean. They moved from Hull down to Milton Keynes when MAT moved down there.
Archie
Cliff Leader went to Leman at Bradford.
He came to see me about doing some traction for him when he started there, but it was all ex Harwich and didn’t suit at the time.
Did two or three jobs only.
That would have been late '70’s I think
Cheers
Tony

Morning Mr.M,
Thanks Tony, you’re absolutely right it was Lemans. Although as I seem to recall it was Transflash McGreggors at the time, later it was as you say Lemans. I’m sure that’s right, although The old memory box is failing fast.
Cheers. Archie
