AND A

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Cheers, Archie

Hullo Cliff,

Here’s a photo that I found on the net, this was Clarice that married Johnny Mac. After their time at the Star & Garter (Rayners) they took a Pub up Hawthorn Avenue in Hull. I wonder if they are still around and what they’re doing now.

Hullo Lads,
I’ve just had a gander at the old MAT depot in Freightliner Road on Google Earth. The old depot is still there and still being used by the look of it, although you can’t just get close enough to see a lot of detail. The old trailer park is still there also, although it looks as if the front part of it is some sort of a scrap yard. Opposite the old out gate is a couple of Industrial buildings Clearways Consevatory Roof. TEPS is still there as well. The Cement Works is now Tarmac. When I’m back in the UK, and we go down to Hull shopping, I must go and have another look. I know that Clarkie has a Commercial Garage down off the Dock Road somewhere, it may be Eastern Commercials, Raven Street., and is still working, mind you he’s getting old now, he was 65 in June, I know as I sometimes talk to his Wife Glynis on here.
Cheers, Archie.

I posted a picture of his lorry recently. It is his retirement present. I imagine he will be visiting a few shows with it, it must beat going to Withernsea on a weekend… :stuck_out_tongue:

Hullo Malc,
Where did you post the picture please. I have heard all about the new toy, but have not seen it, it would be good to have a look.
I don’t know about Withernsea, they spend a lot of time over in Brugge these days. Poor old Garage owners eh ?
Cheers, Archie.

I am not sure at what stage of restoration it is at yet Archie, but you can be certain it will run as sweet as a nut if the doctor has a say.

Hullo Malc,
Thank’s for putting those pictures up, although I must say I’m most disapointed at this object. I thought that the Motor would have been an old LB110. These were the Motors that Dave Clark started on LB110’s at Scantruck, these were the Motors he was working on at MAT, these are the Motors that would really create interest at shows. But come on a 143 ? No way Hose. Oh! well everyone to their own I suppose.
Cheers, Archie.

Hullo “cartran”
The best and biggest Trattoria that MAT vehicles ever parked outside of in Italy was the Paladini Hotel, Carisio. This was our unofficial depot in Italy for a few years. On a weekend the back car park had anything from Five to a Dozen of us there. Even more of us than those poxy Mosquitos / Zinzari, that used to inhabit that area.
Cheers, Archie.

Hey up Cartrans, Where the hell have you dug that one up from? I have never seen any old pictures like that before of motors that MAT had. I think Archie must have bought that new when he was in his late 40s
Cliff

Hiya Carlc, yeah really surprised to find such an early photo, takes bloody hours of trawling the net though! :frowning:

Hullo Cliff,
You cheeky old Sod, I’m home now, I’ve certainly dropped a bollock coming home this early. Next year I,ll stay away till May I think. I’ d come over and clip yer ear’ole, for that remark, but it’ s too bloody cold for me to leave my lair just yet. I’ll try to catch up if I survive this Ice Age. No mate I’ ve never seen a setup like that at MAT.
Cheers, Archie.

I thought that would pull you out of the wood work mate. You came back to the dear old UK at the wrong time Archie, we have just slipped into a bloody ice age.

Cliff. Just come across an old log book that I never handed in when I left MATs. Do you remember the old Atki Borderer SYL212C with the wind up hour meter equivalent to a tachograph that would have been state of the art in the mid 1960s? I wonder if it was a Bowker thing for Pontinental runs! I have got an old log book somewhere in the loft when I started driving in the mid 1960s, I will have a sort out and put it on Trucknet.

Hi Kev
None standard issue was 2 log books, one starting at the correct time and one starting 2 hours later. Then the taco came in and put the blocks on that.

Hullo Cliff,
Yes mate, you’re quite right about that. But then we got Elastic Bands and Bits of Sponge Rubber. We also became quite adapt at Frizzby Throwing. That’s what I have been told, of course I was never involved in such abuse of the Law.
Cheers, Archie.

Hullo matman,
I am very sorry to hear that. Mick was a really lovely bloke, a good friend who I worked alongside for a few years in Hull. Often I used to take him home to Allerthorpe from the Depot, either when I was going home myself or heading North to Scotland. We also ran together on the Continent , although I often had to leave him, as I as an O/D for MAT could’nt copy their easy lifestyle, I had to knock on a bit to earn my few bob. The last time I saw Mick was a few years ago now, he was on for House of James. My sincere condolences to his Wife, Son and Family.
R.I.P. Mick, sleep well mate.
Cheers, Archie. :frowning: :frowning:
