Little is known about Maserati when it comes to veicoli industriali or (light weight) trucks.
Already during WW2 Maserati produced a prototype of even an electrical powered truck with
the name “Muletto” of which two pictures are inputted here.
Slightly better known are the types introduced in the begin of the fifties with 1000 and 1500kg
payload. Even a 2-cilindre and 2-cycle Diesel was offered but further no information available.

Maserati produced light weight trucks in 1940 to 1944 and in 1948 to 1952.
After the move of production and office from Bologna towards Modena, with
the Neptune trident (as per the statue on Bologna’s city-square) and the red
and blue colours of the Bologna-flag, batteries and sparkplugs were made in
the years of the occupation. The electrical Muletto had a 6.5hp engine, single-
plate clutch, a 4-speed transmission and hydraulic brakes. The Diesel-version
from 1948 to 1952 produced 15.5hp, was water-cooled and had independent
spring suspension on the front-wheels.
The Muletto was delivered in a truck-, hearse- or tanker-body.
More to come!
Behind the curtains there was some discussion about the versions of the chassis, but indeed
a 1000kg and a 1500kg payload was offered…still unknown how many were produced then.
To give more atmosphere to the era and the business of Maserati herewith a picture during
the heydays of racing…Maserati active in producing candelas…or spark plugs. No idea on
the marque of the truck with all those tires around.
More to come however here again some input…and the mystery on the Maserati-truck (next to the race-car) is
solved…a Fiat 619 from 1939, just before WW2 began.
They even produced a motocarro and motor-cycles, what a diverse company then!
Again some superb and very rare advertisements/pictures.
Again some recent input (awaiting some more from Maserati BeNeLux soon) on this beautiful marque.
A very very rare pricelist for the sparkplugs from the year 1903!
A factory-view with possibly the fratelli Maserati among brother/director Alfieri.

Happy as I am to take the credit for Albert-Jan’s research, GS, I have to come clean here and remind you that my moniker is ERF-NGC-European , not ERF-Continental! Robert
