Go for it maritime transport is brilliant to work for best equipment first class facilities for drivers annual bonus £600 a week holiday pay and stress free on containers I work out of felixstowe as a tramper take home pay averages around £670 a week. I left tanker work to work for them haven’t looked back 35 years a driver they also pay trampers £70 a week if there’s no nights out to go home when work is quiet good luck.
All vehicles are limited to 52 mph you can personalize but not the exterior if your a tramper one vehicle one driver except on holiday they will never use agency so truck is looked after I drive Scania top line 65 plate top spec as they buy outright and sell within three years via there own sales team secondhandtrucks.co.uk hope this helps.
How many hours do you work each week? Never been one to care about what I’m driving, as long as its roadworthy.
Up to 70 your guaranteed 55 so not so bad when work is quiet nights out paid £23 plus £50 meal allowance not bad for a company that runs 1400 trucks and the boss John Williams is accessible 24/7 he actually really cares about his drivers you will always get drivers that aren’t happy keep your head down and you’re be alright. You will find its those who have left the company that belittle it. Container work easy and clean good pay. We all have different opinions of different companies. I wasn’t happy working in several over the years but I won’t lower myself to slag them off just move on gracefully then no comeback. All our vehicles are never older than 3 years repairs serving Tec on the button 100% legal also you can’t start work before 4am. There is day work. Night work. Tramping.

Up to 70 hours a week!! Think I’ll give that a miss. 50 hours is too many.
Will they take a new pass lgv? I have something in the pipeline when I hopefully pass, but good to have a reserve. Looking for day/night work and don’t mind working weekends if nights or even a max 2 nights away. What is important though is I need to be back on a Thursday by 6pm due to longstanding commitment. Is that something Maritime will accommodate?

They’ll tell you yes to get you on board, but in reality it’s transport. You might get 4 out of 5, but once in a while it will go breasts north

It’s transport so…
Forget things like getting married on time, getting to the airport on time, being there for the birth of yer offspring or your weekly appointment at the local cider appreciation club.
I garauntee you will eventually miss your 6pm Thursday commitment.

That’s a point, I almost missed my own wedding while on there. I did a couple of favours to guarantee getting home to pick up a hire car, they tried shafting me twice no less. Made it to get the car with 5 mins to spare. Can’t help but think they were actually trying to do me a favour though

I appreciate it’s transport and anything can happen, even with the job I have lined up, I could breakdown etc. What I’m trying to determine is if I said “Thursdays I need an early finish” are they likely to try and accommodate that to the best of their abilities or are they likely to take the proverbial every week and send me somewhere it’s impossible to be back early if the rest of the week I’m flexible?

The second one. In fact, if you tell them you need to be back on a Thursday evening you can take it as a given that there could be 1,399 trucks back in the yard on a Thursday evening and only one still out on the road, and that one will be you.
id think maritime would be as interested in your long standing commitment on a Thursday about as much as caring either way if you were still working there or not on the Friday morning, same as most if not all big hauliers…your only a bum in a seat…get a fri-wed job…

That, Mr Monk, is a very cynical view of the transport office.

And there’s the reason why the transport industry can’t attract more people into it. The job I have lined up is Mon-Fri 6am start, finish 5:00-6:00pm
I’m currently working for the local council 37hrs a week and a good(ish) salary and I’ve worked for them 20 years, just can’t stand it anymore (dealing with the scrapings of society in the housing department ). At 47 it’s a big thing to change from a secure job to a job that in my mind is as ‘secure as a flag on a flagpole in a hurricane’
I know I will have to work longer hrs etc, that doesn’t bother me that much, I have to knock off the fact the job is 5 mins up the road. If it doesn’t come off, my thought would be nights would be better.

Are you sure you really want to leave a cushy 37 hour a week job at the council to come into this horrible industry? You could easily end up doing your 37 hours by Wednesday lunchtime in this industry. And then you’ve still got the rest of the week to work.! I would really think about it before yo jump ship, unless of course you’re happy to give up your social life!
