When i was younger and skiving off school, and in the school holidays, (late 70’s,early 80’s) i used to go with me dad, quite often to Switzerland, and one of the memories i have is of stopping for diesel in Luxembourg at or near Capellen.
The reason why this place stands out for me as a nipper is that when you went into the building, the whole back of the wall was covered with photos of lorries.
I was wondering if anyone can remember this place, or even better, if they have any photos?

I think Marc’s (Mark’s) is the Total fuel station on the roundabout at Windhof just before the Route 66 Off Licence You turn off the autoroute just before Capellen services, when coming from Belgium.
I’ve only been in the Total a few times, some time ago.
I don’t remember a photo wall at all.
There is also a small restaurant just after the Total and also a pizzeria.
I’ve only been into both those places once and don’t remember a photo wall in either of them either.
Part of the reason for few visits is that the autoroute is the only authorised transit route now, there’s a 7.5t limit for vehicles transiting Lux’. Also, there is an MEP who lives near there apparently, who complains to the Police about all the HGV traffic. So the Police have a purge every now and then to keep him happy and they stop and fine everyone who shouldn’t be on that road.
It’s also a toss up if it’s worth the extra hassle to go up there for your sleeve of duty free smokes.
If you should get a pull and fine on the way up there, here’s the way it works.
The money the police take from you goes to the Chambre de Commerce.
You therefore keep your receipt for the fine and present it to your usual tobacco retailer on your next visit.
You will receive a discount on your goods to the same amount as your fine (or a refund).
Your tobacco retailer presents your fine receipt (along with all the others) to the Chambre de Commerce, complaining bitterly that they are loosing clients due to undue diligence by the police.
The Chambre de Commerce refunds the money paid out by the tobacco retailer.
Everyone is happy in the end.
The MEP is happy (for a bit) that the police have done their job.
The police are happy, they’ve had a day in the sun and been seen to be policing.
You’re happy (ish), you got your duty frees if a little inconvenienced.
The shop is happy, they made a profit on your purchases.
The C de C is happy because their member is making a profit.
You can check the money circle with your shop keeper if you like.
I’ve had a fine and a refund from Route 66 in the past, it was them who explained it to me.
no need for any politicians to live nearby, I used to fuel up at schifflange, the only neighbour there is a huge cement plant. the coppers would turn up at random to write €250 fines to trucks fueling up at the IDS for breaking the 7.5t transit ban so I usually tried to fuel up very late/very early in the day.
I used Windhof a lot last year. There is nowt in the garage that resembles a photo wall. Plenty of queueing artics there though!
Marcs had a wall behind the bar full (and i mean full) of photos in the late 70’s early 80’s. If you ‘dont remember’ it, then you had’nt been there at that time. Simples!
I used to fill up at Windhof on my way to Greece and on the way back, and luckily never got pulled once. It was a very popular place although not very big.
It’s funny, I had a shout on here a few days ago ,now it’s gone ?

I don’t doubt it, I’ve had exactly the same experience.
Then one day the were standing at that road workers yard entrance. They pulled every none Lux registered wagon and checked CMRs. Anyone delivering/loading in the area were allowed to carry on. Those with delivery addresses elsewhere were fined, turned round and sent back onto the autoroute. They sent us down to the roundabout to turn round, but kept all our documentation to ensure we followed instructions.
As I said earlier, it’s happened to me. It isn’t mmtm.

MMTM the Police do a drive around just after the bans start and check what wagons are there. Later on they’ll come around again. Anything that wasn’t there earlier will get a ‘control’, including a tacho check/printout, which will show what time you parked up.
Parked up after the ban started? You pay!
