manual entry

do you need to make manual entries at the start of each shift.

Depends if you do any work before getting to the truck, and you probably do if you are clocking in, collecting keys and paperwork, or if you did any work after taking your card out at the end of the previous shift, and you probably did, handing keys and paperwork in, clocking off. If you are on a night out just change mode to other work and you’re good to go. I do manual entry at the start of every shift, adding 5 or 10 minutes to the end of the previous shift and to cover the time between my start time of 19:15 and when I get to the truck.

the only time i do a manual entry is if i am waiting for the night man to bring my unit back from where ever he has been.

put card in make sure its set to other work wait ten mins and drive
dont complicate things with manual entry keep it simple

I’d hardly call manual entries complicated so why not do manual entries and keep things simple and legal

Surely you an official start time from your boss, if mine’s 04.00 and I put my card in at 04.10 I will back date it to 04.00 and show that missing 10 mins as work even though I might have been drinking coffee and chatting. Anyway I always put my card in after my walk round checks of the unit.
