is it a legal requirement to do manual entries. we work on a clock card system and most times my card comes out and goes in at different times to my clock card. also if i needed to change vehicle and there was say an hour gap between changing do i need to enter this manually?

Legally you must record all your duties done in a shift
It is not unusual for the authorities to check both tacho records and clock cards should they feel it necessary to do so
As Rog stated, you need to account for what you did in that hour between vehicles, be it work, rest or whatever + any other work.
I suggest you brush up on the simple basics of the regs.

Yes there is a legal requirement to do manual entries where required and the potential fine for not doing so is £200.
Required manual entries cover all work that is done that cannot be automatically recorded on the tachograph, such as when you start work but don’t have a vehicle straight away, or when you change vehicles and there’s a gap in time between ejecting the card and reinserting it.
