I might ring him up for a job?

truckerash:

Thanks for the latest update Harry :grimacing:
Looking at the photo here and reading the words on the side of the Bedford made me cringe :open_mouth:
“An international carrier service to the ANTIQUE AND ASSOCIATED TRADES”… hope it was empty at this time

Ken wouldn’t have known the difference. It was just a blur from one bistro to the next- happy days!

Cracking pic’s as ever Ash,thanks for posting them & for the lads comments too.
Looking forward to the next book
Cheers,Flip

Great pics guys, just when you think the pics on threads have finished, another brilliant set come to light. Historical stuff.

Many thanks for taking the time to post and share.

Regards,

Mark.

Wakey wakey Mark :frowning:  Can’t beleive you’ve only just found this thread :unamused: I started it almost 4 years ago

Here are some very impressive photos which Ray Scutts has kindly loaned me to copy. He drove for Mann / Kestral.

I beleive the Mann livery was first, then came the Kestral colours.
If anyone can provide anymore info on these companies, it will go well with these photos.

MANN INTERNATIONAL

PLISKA Bedford KM and “some of the lads”. Weekended: having a liquid lunch approx1972

“AFTER LUNCH”: - Let’s see how fast we can get this thing to go round the tree without tipping over!

“LITTLE JOHN” driver for Malta Cross Continent Containers Ltd.

“WAKEY WAKEY RAY” Always nice to see a smiley face first thing in the morning…

and finally: Ray posing with brand new TIP trailer. Dover 1970/1?

I hope these photos bring back memories for some of you.

Any info on MANN, KESTRAL, PLISKA and MALTA CROSS would be great

Lovely old Pics. Not companies I remember though.

Mann & son rang some bells with a Harwich company Trailer Mann who were part of a shipping line.
Trailer Mann was sold or became Mansped.
Mann Lines still exist today .

mannlines.ee/336eng.html

Stupot: If you closely at the photo taken in Basle, you can see the M logo on the front of the trailer. I know that it became TrailerMann eventually and I got a feeling ALAN BOOTLE was something to do with company…not just a driver though
Waiting for the “old London boys” to have a look at this thread. Come on MR KEN, were waiting for your invaluable knowledge

“THE SQUARE” TORINO.
Parked up with ROGER PLISKA

Plotzki rig on the right I think was Jim Pettifer’s who ended up with a Swiss outfit Frey from Oberentfelden.

PLISKA Bedford KM and “some of the lads”. Weekended: having a liquid lunch approx1972

On the left is Little Johnny ;on the right is Roger Pliskas brother in law ( outlaw ! )Ken ;in the centre ,I think is a French driver ?
“AFTER LUNCH”: - Let’s see how fast we can get this thing to go round the tree without tipping over!

This is Ken at his best ! Either drunk or asleep! As you can see he was not asleep. He ended his driving career by driving that TK thru the window of a wine shop outside Boulougne
“LITTLE JOHN” driver for Malta Cross Continent Containers Ltd.

Johnny ( Unworthy ) Unsworth .John left Pliska & went on Malta X;then went back to Roger.
I was the first driver on Malta X & got John & Terry Clisset (?) a job. Then my career as a professional drinker really took off !

A few months later -me in Plotski’s Scania in Prato. And John got the runt in the middle.

Another of Plotzki’s fleet. We ended up in Romania on that trip & the firm went bust when we were down there ( 3 trucks ) leaving us to make our way back to Italy ;find loads & get paid for them + ferry before we left Milano.

Nice one Harry
Did you know any of the Mann men? Ray?
Would luv to see a pic of the Bedford in the wine shop… :open_mouth:

Harry: This is a very bad quality shot of Plotzki rig WHS 497H taken on M1 at Toddington.

sent you PM

truckerash The snap was in the local French newspaper but I never saw it. Ken must have thought he’d died & gone to heaven …

truckerash That about 30 yrs ago. I was on SCA when that happened. A little while later Rogers clothes were found on the side of the Seine ; everyone ,including the police had thought he had done a disappearing act but sadly ,much later , it emerged that Roger had had a good midday meal & decided to go for a swim in the Sienne. Unfortunately a barge ran him down & the prop made a mess of him. RIP Roger ;they don’t make them like him anymore. Goldfinger had nothing on him.
