Had to drive a new MAN TGA XXL last week at short notice due to a driver being ill. Could not stand it at first, why have they put the hi, low range switch under neath the splitter switch. So arkward to get to.
Loved the comfort switch for the clutch but why when changing from 7th to 8th did the bloody thing keep telling me to press the clutch.
Got used to it the end but now back in my P reg MAN .
I drive a TGA, never noticed a problem with the position of the Range change switch. I’ve driven most other makes, DAF, Scania, Volvo etc and I think its the best manual gearbox out there, (I’ll look forward to the flak from all those DAF and Scania fans ) Comfort shift excellent, until you drive something else and forget the clutch. With cruise control and comfort shift you don’t use the pedal on motorways, getting a bit worried about DVT might have to buy them socks.
its 1 or 2 things wayne.if your using the clutch pedal your not depressing it right to floor or if your using comfi shift your pressing the button in to fast and letting it go.
DAFMAD:
Here’s some flak, you can’t beat the DAF ZF 16 Manual box, and it don’t beep at you.
Why do MAN’s have morror arms that stick out way too far ?
Driven a DAF with a ZF box, good box, but prefer the MAN.
And the mirrors stick out so you can see the bits the DAF XF drivers miss
Yep, sound like you were a bit quick with the button. It’s a bit wierd when the old instincts make you put you foot on the clutch pedal in readiness for the change and then you press the button. The clutch pedal just drops away!!
It is a slick gearbox but not a patch on any constant mesh box (here we go again )
I remember in training that with modern gearboxes you shouldn’t double clutch any more, as there is no need to, and it puts more wear on the clutch components, yet the comfortshift system double clutches
Wheel Nut:
And on that point, why does a Mercedes have electrically operated drivers mirrors but you cant alter the kerb mirrors
Just a thought but maybe its because the cab would “usualy” be built LHD,so “our” kerb side mirror would be “their” driving mirror and could be moved manually whilst “our” drivers side mirror would be “their” kerbside mirror and so require an electric adjuster!!
Just a thought, but it would make sense just to have them both electric.

This post is about MAN TGA but yes the finest gearbox in the world is a 13 speed fuller, which is a 9 speed constant mesh box with a splitter.
But that was developed into a 12 speed twin splitter, and that was developed into a comfort shift.
Can’t fault the MAN TGA, best motor on the road! Had a LX Executive with every optional extra and air suspension all round, best truck I’ve ever driven.
Had a 6 month-old 2548 Actros the other day - what a bag of sh_t! The old EPS box was better than this “Telligent System”. It was supposed to have 480 horses but felt gutless. I normally drive a 2543 Axor which, compared the Actros, is extremely vicious!!!
