seen today 08 plate around m6j25…nice to know the fine earnings are being
spent wisely
5 series BMW in silver …with a Tow Bar ! M6 juct 8/9 Tues. Would not have suspected it as a plain wrapper, not with a tow bar on it, til he stuck his Blues on and sped after an Range Rover sport being driven dangerously by a pillock
Grey Ford Focus ST on a 57 plate near Brimingham on the M6 who seems flat out busy. Various 08, 58 plate Silver 5 series beemers, one 06 plate greenish 5 series. Seen a newish Audi A6 as well. 08 plate Saab estate’s a bit of a sneaky one though. They’re getting harder to spot nowadays. Think they’ve cottoned on to the loads of aerials and the Jeremy Beadle extra nearside mirror was a bit of a giveaway.
On the A23/M23 its usually Dark green 56 Plate Jaguars, some estate, some saloon.
On the A27 some morning they cruise about in a 53 plate Mitsubishi Evo VIII, which is a dark metallic blue - bet that must be a job!
Often I’ve seen boy racers in Corsa’s speed off the Lewes roundabout exit trying to show off with the Evo behind, then he sticks his blue lights on and pulls them in at the first layby. Made my day many a time

Just to keep us on our toes, some of the latest unmarked vehicles are using led lights fitted to the grille bars. These lights are about 5mm!! in diameter, and are as bright as normal lights, so they are almost impossible to see (unless you are walking around the round of an unmarked car!!).
So be warned, i have seen them recently fitted to Vvectras, BMW 5 Series and Volvos!!
I’ve also seen an Audi R8 with a personal plate on it with the “blues & two’s” being used around the Weston-super-Mare area. Nice to know that our taxes are being used so wisely to let the boys in blue have some comfort in their working day.
Are most of these un-marked cars the result of being not taxed… or assests of criminals etc?
if so they are saving money?
better to reuse a high powered car than crush it… or get pennies from auction
er,i dont think so
brand spankers i should say, only the best for
bumstrum n co

I can’t believe they have an R8 especially with a personal plate? Surely it’s some ■■■■ with his own blues impersonating the law? They definately are spending too much money if that’s the case.
A46
An old W reg black volvo estate well it’s got a W reg on it when u go past it at night u see the lappy in the pas side. Nice car goes like ■■■■ yeah nice ride
Also a Red bike got the twigs but the tel tel is when he goes past and u see the switches all lite up
Well Silver Surfer, you may be right about it being someone impersonating plod, but I doubt it very much. It is more likely to be one of the local bigwigs in the plod who has had the blues & twos fitted to his personal transport, and uses them when he is in a hurry!
My car, which I bought from the leasing company at the local auction (BCA Bridgwater) is a Rover 620SLi. When I made enquiries from the leasing company to try to get the “Red Key” (necessary if you need another key made up) which wasn’t supplied with the car when I bought it, discovered that it had been the Chief Fire Officer’s car of the the Fire Brigade Station in Carmarthen and that it had had the blues & twos fitted to it. The switches for which are still in the console by the handbrake, unfortunately now no longer connected to anything at the other end of the wires. When I got the car I was stumped at the purpose of these two swiches as no mention was made in the driver’s handbook about any such switches, one has a pictogam of a beacon and the other a horn. When i discovered who had used the car it all made sense.
I have seen the Audi concerned on more than one occasion going for it with all displays going. From memory I think the reg is L 80 and three letters which I can’t remember at present, but I will keep my eyes peeled for it and post the reg on here (if permitted, given the issues raised about doing that).
Not all the “unmarked” cars are plod, quite possibly other agencies , I have come across a couple in the last couple of years where I have telephoned for confirmation as the cars have looked quite improbable for law enforcement.
I have also seen more than one Skoda Octavia in a plain wrapper.
When I was on the staff car job I often drove a ‘chase car’ which, depending on whereabouts we were operating, was kitted out almost exactly like an un-marked traffic car… Extra mirrors, LED strobes, Sirens, dash mounted radio, all sorts of fancy kit. Main difference was probably the ton and a half of armour plating we had built into ours.
The cars varied from battered old mondeos and omegas right up to Range Rover Sport’s and Merc G-Wagons. I don’t know who picks the vehicles or where they get them from, but they were fond of a bit of variety. A lot of the older / less powerful cars had new engines dropped in and fettled with too, just for an extra treat.
‘Chase cars’ are still in use as far as I know, so some of the cars you have seen could be MOD.
Maybe the R8 belongs to the equivalent of James Bond… Be great driving one of those around all day! I’m sure it looks mint with the blues and twos going for it. W reg volvo is a bit sneaky, i’m surprised they still run cars that old, you normally think you are safe if it’s more than a few years old. The undercover bikes are a new introduction I think, I’ve never seen one apart from on the telly, must only have a few.
I dont think the plain wrappers are designed as a trap for truck drivers, unless you are driving like a prat.
However I welcome the fact that there are some police on the roads and not sat sipping coffee in the office. But as mentioned, some of these cars could be royal protection, bomb disposal or customs.
Why would they want plain cars apart from too collect stealth tax fines?
The best deterant is to have marked cars and coppers on the beat in full uniform.
Not to have James Bond wanabes.
I know plod also have a few motors that are designed to look a bit past their best but are like new mechanically underneath. They use 'em for undercover work so they don’t stand out…
I mean if you were staking out a market where everyone had rusty 15 year old vans, & you were stuck there in you 08 plater, chumy would get suspicious. The same must apply for customs as well.
I used to often see a UC grey traffic plod Focus around the Coventry end of the M6, & can remember now it appearing from noware when dozens of people were flying up the hard shoulder to get of a traffic jam at J3.
I was following him one time & sadly his cover was blown, by the Hi Viz Police jacket hanging out of the boot

.
When mr ton plus driver (who may have been drinking night before and over limit) sees a marked cop car he slow down and passes then puts foot down after passing him
where as un marked car has him bang to rights and off the road
