Do the police have to pay to use it. Reason i ask is i have just watch a episode of motorway police
the one which the M5 floods. The police range rover had a dart tag in the windscreen and i can’t
think of a reason why they would have a dart tag in there vehicle.
If any looks at the episode it in the vehicle with our old friend angus in it with his twin.
I would have thought so, they tax their cars don’t they?
Police cars display a tax disc but it is nil cost.I believe Fire,Ambulance,MOD vehicles are the same. HATO vehicles display a tax exempt disc. These are all Crown vehicles so are exempt from vehicle road fund licence.
If it’s not a publicly managed road (e.g. a toll road, which it is) I can’t see why they shouldn’t have to pay. On the other side of the coin, maybe if you require police on your toll road it will cost you.
I use it a few times a week and I’ve seen police cars on it simply slow for the barrier and up it goes. That’s the operator controlled barriers not the two TAG lanes.
Toll road or not, its still a public highway that is subject to the same rules and regs as any other road. So i reckon the police will be able to use M6 toll as part of their routine patrol at no cost.
I used to deliver fire engines and never paid a toll on any road/ bridge.
Police cars belong to the council and have to pay tax and be insured - as do fire engines. Ambulances belong to the NHS which makes them “crown vehicles” and they pay no tax or insurance. RNLI are also exempt I believe.
I used to have a fleet of Crown Vehicles and if a driver was given a producer at a police station other than our local one, I had a hard time convincing PC Plod that the car needed neither RFL or insurance.
At that time I had my own book of discs like tax discs but signed by me that showed the exemption. These days the £0 discs are issued by DVLA
I thought the police were in a self underwriting scheme like most of the big haulage fleets. Also, I would have thought that police vehicles were the property of the relevant Police Authority.
the police cant do you for speeding on the M6 TOLL as its a priavte road as soon as the barriers go up pedal to the metal its one massive drag stip

Police vehicles are crown exempt and therefore do not require tax, they display a tax disc at nil rate, but unlike other vehicles (save for MoD) cannot be prosecuted for failure to display a valid VED (as they do not require one).
As for the M6 Toll, it is road that is percieved to be a road, therefore all road legislation applies and you can be prosecuted for contraveining it.

You would think so the speed some of them drive on it but as a regular user of the M6 Toll I have seen there far and away the greatest number of plain enforcement vehicles in use by the the police that I have seen anywhere.
