M6 Toll night rate

When do they work out when to charge the night rate - is it when you get on the motorway or when you hit the toll booth to pay?

Just asking because on nights we’ve got to the point now running from Northampton to Runcorn where the diversions and alternate routes we used now have full closures on and have diversions on those as well and being able to use the M6Toll we’d bypass the lot.

The night rate comes into effect at 23:00. We would normally hit the start of the M6 Toll 15 minutes before that but we’d be hitting the toll booths at the other end after that.

Cost wise it would end up being cost neutral, for the drivers it would be a hell of a lot less stressful. I just have to sell it to the traffic office.

At a complete guess I’d say that the time at point of payment (the booth) determines whether or not you pay the reduced rate regardless of whether you had traversed the whole length pre 2300hrs or not.

Night rate is £8.60 but if it’s a regular journey get your drivers a tag,it makes it £8.17 instead.

From what I believe you pay on exit not been on it for ages hope this helps

Jeff.

You may even have ‘email’ evidence of the response to challenge if you get billed wrongly.

It says on the boards “Discounts at night apply”.

Whoppee… How many seconds longer is it to drive up the clear M6 at night compared to the toll road?

There’s a service area on that stretch as well I believe… They must charge 149.9 for fuel and £9.99 to use the cash machines - since everyone driving on that stretch of road has a “Money’s no object” view of things eh? :smiling_imp:

Depends. On where you’re going and what the M6 is like. Ive been stuck in traffic round Birmingham in the middle of the night and sometimes those few minutes you dismiss can mean the difference between making a ferry and missing it

As for tolls, its the time you pay. Toll booth operators have no power over it, come the time the toll changes automatically.

You obviously don’t run the M6 at night.

Try doing that from the 16th of February until the 30th of March as the M6 is closed every night Northbound between Junctions 7 and 10 from 9.30pm until 6.00 am while they replace all the bridge joints on that section.

Judging by the tailback stretching all the way from the closure at J7 to Star City at 10.30pm last night I’d say its more a case of how many hours longer is it to drive up the M6 at night.
