M6 Junction 16 to 20 accidents

I bet the questions has been asked and answered many times but what do the members believe is the common reason as to the number of accidents that occur in and around that area appreciate your views many thanks

Restricted lane width meaning vehicles are closer together along with impatience would be my guess.

Am up down there every day. Stupid narrow lanes don’t help. Plus the amount of cars you see in and out of lanes undertaking doesn’t help. As if you undertake and someone wants to move over there’s no room to manoeuvre get out the way

The completely random lane markings on there don’t help.

It’s not just on that section its everywhere you go now.

The problem is we have a road infrastructure for roughly 50 million people, and we’re probably up around the 70 million they admit to, and probably another 5 mil they don’t, and still coming in at the rate of half a million a year, and literally the roads can’t cope, as resorting to turning hard shoulders into live running lanes proves beyond a doubt.

Another problem is we import far too much and store the crap in vast warehouses dotted all around the country where is plebs live, very few in the Cotwolds eh Dave?, so from import centre to storage and thence into the distribution chain, those 70 million have to serviced.

The other problem is the distance people now travel to work, though when you think about it this goes hand in hand with the import situation, because those people travelling into major cities to manage :unamused: the utter bloody chaos this country is descending into, would most likely have been working locally if we still had real industry and its support smaller industries, those places that older lorry drivers used to service before port to warehouse to rdc to shop became the standard fare of the lorry driver.

We’re a swelling number of rats in a ever shrinking cage, if you think its bad now just give it another generation.

Who admits to the population being 70 million? (It’s not, it’s about 66 million) And where on Earth do you get the figure of half a million a year increase?

Everyone too close from all directions. The side ways direction can’t be helped because the lanes are narrow, but then everyone sits too close to the next vehicle.

Being so close means there’s no time to react when mistakes or stupidity takes place.

Mistakes and stupidity take place often caused by frustrations because everyone’s speedometer is calibrated slightly different, so when one driver thinks they at 50mph the driver behind might be showing 46mph, which leads to frustration, undertakes, road rage, impatience, sitting 2 inches away from the car in front and so on.

It’s all a recipe for the inevitable crash, which then ends being a big one involving multiple vehicles because everyone is so bunched up.

They seem to think it’s a good idea to narrow lanes in every set of roadworks. Take the A14, seriously, why?? Who ever came up with this idea wants lined up against a wall and shot.

The UK population has indeed been increasing by around 500,000 a year for the past 10+ years. Also, the number of people migrating to the UK has been above 500,000 a year since the turn of the century (partially offset by a lesser number leaving the country).

A significant proportion of that increase (but nowhere near all of it!) is down to immigration and subsequent offspring of migrants.

On top of that it’s easier than it’s ever been to buy and own a car with finance companies throwing money at car dealerships.

One speedo showing 50 and an other showing 46 and both traveling at the same speed? That is a slight exaggeration I feel. Modern speedos are actually very accurate and even older ones were never that far out.
Never mind the speedos, some drivers never seem to be able to manage to drive correctly with their impatience and inability to realise how easily accidents can happen.

The official figure might be 66 million…

To original question, my answer would be…

  1. Stupidly short slip roads caused by roadworks.
  2. Far too much traffic crammed together.
  3. Everything having to do 50mph so cramping up*.
  4. Potholes or caves all along the roadworks.
  • BMW AUDI and Merc can’t cope with this or being in the middle lane.

In other words it’s everything but the bad driving. Ask yourself why they are all cramped up.
Drivers need to realise they are the biggest problem and stop blaming everything else.

Er 50 is a limit not a target.
I come through there every other day/ night cars sitting in lane 2 oblivious to the move back to lane 1
Trucks pushing the arse of everything .
I’m quite happy sat at 47 and let everything pass.
I’m quite happy in my little world and not in a rush for the next level of life
Or death as it’s called.

Truck on I’d rather be late than early for the end of life …

You’d be surprised, I’ve noticed a couple of times lately that I’ve passed a couple of fairly new models (66-17 plates) with big digital speedos clearly displaying 60mph and I’ve passed them at quite a pace at 56!

Considering the apparent difficulty some drivers have driving in a straight line on a straight piece of road, anything that taxes their driving ability in the slightest is going to end in disaster.
