RIP to the fowler welsh driver . Condolancies to the family. And as for all the comments. Why didn’t the police react. Sooner. They were warned about the hazard 20 mins before hand by a passing motorist

Actually 12 minutes before hand not 20 minutes according to the control, the message was simply passed onto the HA who dealt with the over head signs, 12 minutes later a further call was recieved saying a truck had collided with the bus thats when the police were dispatched who arrived 6 minutes later.

Admittedly, had the police been dispatched on the first call they would of been present 6 minutes before the accident so lets hope lessons have been learnt and a better method of decision making is put in place.

Ok just a thought I go down the m5 everyday there as I did today the skid marks off the truck are about 50 to100 yds from impact and he didn’t have anywhere to go and all I kept thinking was if you have a vehicle broke down in a live lane for twelve minutes why didn’t they just put up 3 red x’s just till help got there and then open 1 lane it would only take a few minutes to sort and everyone should have still been alive. If I was driving in those conditions or broke down in them I think that would be what I would have wanted and before anyone has a pop at me would you sooner be delayed a little or come across a stranded vehicle in thick fog or even worse be one of the fatalities,it’s a real tragedy for those involved and these days we have mobile phone matrix signs the lot and things have to be learned from this .

The fog was that bad mate, I could see the corner lights flashing on the matrix sign, but couldn’t read the message, this is the big matrix signs, so the x’s on the small ones would most likely have been visible, but that gives you a clue just how bad it was that morning.

The family of a lorry driver killed in a crash with a coach on the M5 has said he died doing “the job he so very much loved”.

The 65-year-old has been named by West Midlands Police as William Mapstone from Wells in Somerset.

The coach passenger killed in the crash has been named as Liaquat Ali, 35, from Smethwick.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday when a lorry collided with a single decker bus.

Mr Ali’s family said: "Liaquat was the loving husband of Fozia Shaheen and was the father of two sons and a daughter - Shafqat Ali, aged nine, Mohammed Owais Ali, aged two and Kashish Eman aged six.

The crash involved a lorry and a single decker coach
The driver of the bus, a 49-year-old Birmingham man, remains on bail in connection with the incident.

Police said no-one has been charged with any offences at this stage.

An investigation into the circumstances which led to the collision is “likely to take some time”, a spokesman said.

Insp Mark Watkins, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Inquiries centre on the weather conditions at the time of the collision and how the bus came to be stationary in the carriageway.”

West Midlands Police said they want to speak to anyone who saw the bus travelling along the M5 prior to the collision
