On the plus side at least he made sure no one else will hit it.

Another angle from Eddie Mitchellâs drone pictures.
Shows it is a low trailer and does look like the dumper has been moved back from the neck of the trailer if thatâs where it was.
Didnât let enough pressure out of the trailer tyres before going for it.
I always think that lower height limit bridge, on the inside lane only, round the Oxford ring road is a recipe for disaster.

if thatâs the case then just another example of how the media will do anything to invade someones greif riddled privacy.i suppose it would have been more juicy if someone got slaughtered might even have seen the driver skewered in the cab by the steering wheel if it was 2 secs earlierâŚi just consider them pondslime,id have more respect for the trainspotter brigade than the media.Yet you are on here discussing the topic and looking at the photos he took.
im on here in a specific forum and cant help seeing the pics posted, donât mean I have any respect for the media? I donât watch live tv and havenât read a newspaper for id reckon over 30 yearsâŚsame as i cant help but see the odd front page in a petrol station or the ferry, but I despise the media for the double standards slime that they are.similar to politicians, plod and councillors.

Is that digger secured to the trailer at all?
Iâve just read that no one has been arrested yet so obviously to the police no one was to blame, yet. surely if the lowloader driver had struck it with load heâd been instantly arrested??
It bugs me if digger had hit bridge surely the digger would be a crumpled mess on motorway and the trailer ramps bent into submission? Assuming driver travelling at 56mph surely no chains in world would keep digger in place hitting concrete at that speed??

IF(?) the height of the trailer was over 16â 6 and IF(?) the height of the bridge was less than 16â 6 how are the authorities going to be able to prove anything when both structures have moved?

dumper on the neck is no where near high enough
Maybe the digger arm v post photos are just an illusion and maybe the dumper wasnât even loaded on the neck deck of the trailer anyway. While if it was the digger arm that hit the bridge why would anyone with any sense take a chance with that amount of height.Especially when removing the bucket and lowering the arm was an obvious option in that case.
inexperienced at moving plant
Just looking at the specifications for the digger, in that position in should be 3980 high, deck heights on low loaders are usually 900 - 1000?.
And in some of the pictures it looks like the boom of the digger has hit the railings on the bridge which would have been on a min height bridge about 6000 - something doesnât add up for me.
Evidence suggests that the knuckle on the digger hit the bridge, a 17t rubber duck is going to be a fairly lofty thing and with the bucket on backwards like that itâs not going to be that low. Most plant drivers would load the dumper up the front then put the duck on backwards with the bucket curled right in to get the jib down. Usually the highest point would either be the cabguards on the roof or the bend in the jib. Once you start going above that trouble is not going to be far away. The blade is down on the duck and if it was chained down half right it wouldnât have moved far, chances are it didnât want much of a hit to dislodge the span of the bridge.
From the picture on their facebook page of a similar load, itâs an even worse looking load. Inexperience seems the most likely cause.
At least theyâre not hanging round with getting the road open.
Surprised theyâve not mover the low loader out the way yet
A friend of mine was about 200 metres behind this when it happened he said the digger hit the bridge.
There is road works just before where it happened could the digger have been picked up there?
I thought all motorway bridges had to be at least 5metres highâ â ?

Seems they are leaving the âbridge to nowhereâ on the westbound side where it is. I know they have to reopen the road but I can foresee some close shaves as folk slow down to take pictures
No-one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
â â Did the bridge just fall or did the digger help it? tncsi have no factual evidence and the quote is from post above.
Just looked at the scene. Trucks gone. Bridge gone. putting away the crane.
bubsy06:
That bridge collapsed on its own.
Look at the damage to the fridge lorry, looks like the bridge dropped a few foot first then dropped completely. Low loader driver must have seen it happening and slowed down and moved onto the hard shoulder, if he hit that boom on the bridge there would be a hell of alot more damage on the digger.Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Yep if that little digger hit that bridge hard it would of knocked it off the back.
Was the hard shoulder one of those smart motorway âlive lanesâ at the time of the accident?
Just the bridgesâ curve looked lower there than in the other lanesâŚ
And no ones mentioned that here yet

Kent police are stating that the digger hit the bridge bringing it down.
And it has been pretty obvious from the start that is what happened.
Loaded and driven by a numpty with no plant experience.

It could be possible. It would explain why the vehicle was in the H/S (possibly building speed to rejoin motorway) and also the extremely short distance itâs managed to stop in after the bridge.
