What’s hato?
thought so! I wonder if tibshelf services can claim compo?
Some people will probably moan about another picture being put up of an artic embedded into the back of another but when people start to learn about tail-gaiting being a dangerous hobby (IF that was the case) then images like these will be freely available to anybody with access to the web. With all the best safety systems/features in the world, most of it is still down to driver input…if some want to put those systems to the test by following 30-40’ behind another at speeds probably reaching 65mph on a downhill stretch then good luck…you’ll need it. Spending 7hrs learning how to operate a tail-lift or how to turn a fridge on and off (other examples of a waste of a day are available) shows people exactly why the DCPC is total ■■■■■■■■…driver education/awareness is what’s needed (in many cases) and 7hrs (at least) should be spent watching some CCTV/fire brigade video of an incident ‘as it happened’, right through to the moments when the driver is taken to hospital.
The video shows what can happen if you drive around oblivious to your surroundings but more importantly, what’s going on in front
Actrosman, photos like this need to be shown, even if it makes 1 driver just think about how close he is travelling to truck in front. Last week, I overtook a truck on the M6 who had both hands using his mobile, texting with his thumbs, steering with his elbows. This is bad enough but he was about 10ft from the artic in front. Why put yourself in that position??
I quite agree…some of 'em ‘shouldn’t even have been given a license’ let alone ‘some of them should lose it’. M6 sb j7…every bloody night, on the run down the hill…guaranteed to see them, 5 or 6 in a line all overtaking the slower ones in lane 1 and all have a gap of less than 10 feet between them…something happens upfront suddenly and it will be game over for for most of them. I was sat ‘behind’ a DD last night approaching j6…big company, won’t name them but never knowingly undersold…I’m heading for M42 so I’m passing him in what I thought was the correct lane for sb traffic (the middle one, before it splits off to A38m). I expected him to head off but instead he crossed the chevroned area and into the old lane 1, carried on, crossed over the chevrons at the 2 slip roads for traffic joining the M6, across these 2 lanes and carried on oblivious as to where exactly he should’ve been…in front of me. Fortunately, both these slips were empty and no harm was done…if a few pallet lads were heading south at the wrong time, it would have been a different story and I’ll bet my life, he’d have been the one doing all the flashing and honking when 3 or maybe more wantd the same stretch of tarmac at the same time and it all started going ■■■■■■■■■■ Nothing against Pallet Guys, just more of them about early hours, so they take the flack…sorry!

according too some reports the guy ran into the back of a truck that was stopped in lane 1 but he certainly didnt brake before he hit it with so much force that it snapped the fifth wheel off and imbedded the trailer in the back of the cab.
the hato guys i spoke too said they couldnt understand how he was still alive. there are other rumours circulaiting about what the other was doing at the time of the accident but wont air them on here
For clarity, the image posted by Actrosman is the truck involved in the incident and it was a DHL artic believed to be on the Nisa contract.
I know this May like seem a dumb question but with so much force involved, why is the trailer in front still in reasonably good shape?
The load (now all over the floor) absorbed the impact energy.
Well I finally got past the scene at 8:15 after assisting a fellow pro in negotiating the breakdown in lane 3.
What a mess! I had to look hard to check if it was an article or a 6 wheeler.
Looks to be a totally avoidable accident in normal conditions but traffic was really light when it happened.
I assumed the lengthy closure was because of a fatality but thankfully not…yet anyway.
It certainly made me drive super careful today when I finally got to work.
The only excuse I can think of is if the bloke passed out / heart attack or something. Any rate I hope he hang in there and pulls through.
I saw cctv footage of a crash in roadworks on M1 where a steel carrier was broke down in lane 1, no hard shoulder. Early hours of morning, road was lit, an artic ( a Volvo) is approaching it, the artic behind him ( a Daf) pulls into lane 2 and flashes volvo to pull out, Daf starts to drop back, Volvo just ploughs into stationary truck. No braking, no swerving. It wasn’t nice.

Now open.Too late for me, after diverting via Clay Cross and Alfreton, I’ve lost around 1.5 hours, and currently sat in Hopwood Park. Should have been nearer Monmouth.
Ken.
i was stuck on that route as well Quinny lost 2.30 hrs, plus had to stop for a 2nd 45 min break.thing is,when i eventually got to Alfreton,it was the lights at the crossroads by the supermarket that was the cause of the congestion surely a policeperson could have been dragged out of his patrol car or canteen to do a spot of point duty for a few hours, and got our very long line of traffic through?

Was told this morning that the driver passed away in hospital from multiple injuries. I suspect this would be why they were so long in opening the road again.

R.I.P. driver

I would assume that the headboard on a fridge trailer would be strenghend because of the weight of the fridge on the front thus making it harder for the load to break through i would think.

Nope, no guarantee of passing trade
Just out of interest who would pay the compo,
Don’t see why compo to a private business should come out of our taxes

You really think a copper knows how to do point duty that would be like watching this

Whilst i agree, the damage above is not consistant with tailgating another truck. Yes if they brake you’re going to rear end them but the damage would likely be surviveable. Hit the rear of a stationary truck at speed then that is the outcome.

Well theres conflickting reports on other forums that the driver may still be alive. If he is then i want lotto numbers frm him as he 1 lucky driver to survive that accident
