Jeez… I’ve been at that junction at around about that time 14 nights in the past 4 weeks… They’ve been closing the south entry slip J13 on many of them, along with the J13 south exit slip on other nights.
M1 closed in Bedfordshire after fatal lorry crash
The scene of the M1 crash A lorry driver was killed in the three-vehicle crash
A man has died in a crash involving three lorries on the M1 in Bedfordshire.
The collision on the southbound carriageway happened at 03:30 BST between junctions 13 and 14, near Milton Keynes.
The dead man was the driver of one of the lorries involved in the crash. Two other lorry drivers sustained minor injuries.
The motorway reopened at about noon, police said.
A spokeswoman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “Crews in three ambulances and two cars attended and carried out treatment on scene before taking the three casualties to hospital.”
A Bedfordshire police spokeswoman said an investigation was under way.
Bedfordshire fire service said five appliances were sent to the scene.
Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
apparently they’d just put a rolling roadblock in on the contraflow to enable a gantry lift.
the traffic was stationary but for some reason the guy at the rear didn’t stop intime.
(it’s little consolation i know, but i’m told it was intantanious.)
I came to stand still at 03:32, I was about 300 mts from the scene 3 fire engines 1 ambulance and 1 police car passed me a few minutes later, probably from J14. These road works are a complete pain, at 04:02 they opened a gap into the central reservation and we joined the north bound that way. It could happened to anyone of us, thoughts with his family and friends.
the only way your gonna smash into something infront is either health issues, buggering about with phones etc or just not watching whats going on around you.
why you think they are so many car shunts in lane 3?.. its cus most of the tools are on bloody mobile phones…

Very true, and who can hand on heart claim that they never have a moments distraction during the course of a driving shift. which is all it takes.
why does it have to be buggering about or mobile phone? at 0330 it could have been tiredness and i defy anyone on here to say that they have never been tired at that time, it could also have been a mechanical failure. it could have been many things but until anyone knows for certain then please show a little respect. someone lost their life!

That time of the day is the worst for tiredness when driving according to some studies.
Absolutely. Theres far too many daft start times in this industry.
Firms starting shifts at midnight or 23.00 or 01-00am. When you start work at 1 in the morning, realistically when are you supposed to have been to bed? Its bl oody ridiculous. All nice n legal of course.
Night shift used to be a 18-00 or thereabouts start and a finish early morning so you could get some proper rest, back in the day.
Yes I`ve seen that report. Half of all fatal truck accidents are between the hours of midnight and 4am.
Its mainly supermarkets who are the worst culprits, and their associated suppliers, doing stupid times.
