Sadly a 30 year old man has died and 2 people have been badly injured. Rip and condolences to the friends and family.
I was stuck in it last night for 3 to 4 hours before they let the trapped traffic go. The car was badly damaged and my first thought was it had been hit up the back by a truck but it seems just the 2 cars were involved.
But as with everything it still never cease to amaze me the sheer stupidity and I must get a few feet by most drivers, I left a large gap in front of when it came to a standstill and the truck at the side of me decided to go in it seeing he couldnāt actually go anywhere. There were emergency vehicles fighting their way through, fire men had to get out and make people make some room to get through and even after a few emergency vehicles had gone through everyone just pulled back into their lane instead of staying put and leaving room for the rest of the emergency vehicles to come through. When it was clear something bad had happened and moving more than a few feet wasnāt going to happen.
I know Iām preaching to the converted but the standard of driving and Iām more important than someone possibly dead or dying (in this case one dead) is absolutely shocking, we expect it from car drivers a lot but some of the absolute shocking driving from supposed professional drivers also is frustrating.
And to top it off the idiot artic driver that decided to smash into the lorry in front near the scene of the earlier accident when the motorway was down to one lane, someone had moved the cones so vehicles could get through. As the lorry was not going anywhere at all.
Thankfully I got through that before emergency services arrived so didnāt get stuck in another accident on the way back.
Drivers were in the road works for that one out of the vehicles, wasnāt the worst but again travelling too close to the vehicle in front.
Iāll wait for Robroy to say it for me but this time I absolutely have to agree with him.
The term āprofessional driversā is sadly rarely applicable in our modern industry. I could go on about lack of courtesy, bullying tactics, dicks in trucks who attempt to overtake on roundabouts ad infinitum but Iād only sound exactly like the bitter old man that I am fast becoming!
Dont mention her name, Iām sick of her ringing me, āRob I need youā, 'Rob come and get me! Rob this ,.Rob that. ffs Holly,.Iām spoken for.
Itās a hard life mate when you look as good as this.
Nah seriously, never heard about that RTA, but always bloody tragic when anybody dies on the road.
Was it 4 or 5 died last week M6 Tebay, turns out some balloon was going the wrong way, and hit a car with a family inside, killed himself into the bargain.
As for these pricks who have managed to blag a Class 1, donāt get me startedā¦professionals my arse.
You see them in one form or another every day.
Up Scotch yesterday.
Some superstar in a fancy Scania thought I was not going fast enough for himā¦blasted his horn at me on the roundabout ffs.ā¦did he really think that eould make me go faster?
Turned out he was going same place as me, so he took what he thought was a quicker shortcut.
Loved it when I got there before him and gave him a knowing broad grin as I walked to weighbridge, when he pulled in behind me, but then he went to a different deptā¦so it ended there.
This morning pulled out to let a hay truck out on M5 , kept me hanging level with his cabā¦absolute kin helmet.
Both downright trivial and unimportant compared to these RTA.s, but you get my drift.
Got to say it when opportunity arisesā¦
āCPC my arseā.
And definitely working now that things are soooo much better since it kicked in eh?
I went to a show at the midlands exhibition center on Saturday it was hammering it down pretty much from when we set off to banbury. saw 4 car accidents on the south bound carriage of the m40. One of them was a single car on its roof.
Many of these roll overs and big damage casualties are the result of just small low level but high speed, glancing collisions, which launch them into orbit, or shunts, all involving stupidly light micro car designs with no crumple zones being used for high speed long distance use.
These types should be banned from all 50 mph-NSL roads on grounds of occupant safety.
Also estate cars being used as seven seaters which puts passengers in the rear crumple zone.In which the rear row of seats should be banned from use by passengers.
Have to say itās very/too similar to driving in the old Yugoslavia here now.
Single carriageway you can never trust anyone to stay on their correct side of the road and motorways are just full of idiots who are unsafe at any speed.Often those driving at 45 mph being the worst.
Also donāt jump to the conclusions that itās always the following driversā fault.More often idiotic lane changes, speed matching and blocking of lane changes and deliberate brake checking which often could only logically be explained by crash for cash scams.
Many of these attempts are so predictable they are laughable.
Not so much the standard of driving has gone down but the standard of people. Itās everywhere the Iām alright Jack attitude. But weāre all trying to get somewhere! Like youāre in the wrong now for showing a bit of common courtesy.
Think some of the clowns you see in cars have now been let loose in trucks
^^^^^.
Not just on the roads mate, itās society in general.
Lack of manners, lack of empathy, people are more aggressive these days than they used to be.
It all manifests itās self on the roads.
At the risk of sounding old, I blame pi55 poor parents and lack of parenting skills thereof.
A lot of kids are not taught basic social skillsā¦or manners.
Yep, spot on. It seems that so many of our kidsā generation have instilled in their kids, that they are special and entitled, they were never given boundaries.
Gonna blow my own trumpet here (cos nobody else will.)
All my 4 kids were always commented on for their good manners, more credit to my ace Mrs than me, seeing as I was away a lot.
In turn I have 9 young grankids, all with impeccable manners, and all being brought up in a proper way, I am proud to sayā¦so a good grounding.
My eldest daughter is a teaching assistant at a primary schoolā¦she says many of the kids do not even understand the concept of āplease & thank youā.
Maybe up to a point Rob.
But experience tells me that the problems on todayās roads are more about the perfect storm of idiots who just canāt drive. Starting with width judgement and basic rules of the road like give way and stop and keeping within the central dividing line and using the mirrors when changing lanes and when not to stop like the idiot on the A1 yesterday who stopped in the live 70 mph lane 1 to fit into a tight layby space rather than go by to the next exit then come back and try again but with more advanced warning with hazard lights well before making the attempt.
You can then add to that drugged drivers drink drivers and unlicenced drivers and last but not least crash for cash scammers.
All of which seemingly able to act with impunity because the law donāt seem to want to stop and ask questions regarding those driving at 30-40 mph in a 50 or NSL.Or others making laughable lane changes or blocking manoeuvres followed by the predictable brake checking.
Yeah Iāll go with that, bad manners, agression, lack of empathy and courtesy, as I said.
As well as the points you make on lack of ability, competence, skill, and common sense.
So where does the answer lie?
Driver training?,
Periodic tests?
Or re.tests after major road offences, or habitual offendersā¦or what?
