Lucky to be Alive

Oh dear, yet another idiot with a camera :frowning:

Hi all. I am the IDIOT with the camera, I have it as too many cars pull in front of me and brake hard. after a nasty headon crash I had last year in the M1, I brought this to save my [zp] if it happens again.
As for the footage on utube, I were allowing a gap to open for him to pull into while allowing the traffic in my lane to still keep moving how ever he still move over when I was half way up his trailer.

Tin hat on

Even with out indicating, as soon as his positioning looked liked he was coming across, I would have stopped and let him in. Traffic is bad enough without us making it harder for each other.

His intentions were perfectly clear and you just had to keep rolling forward and made a mounting out of a self made mole hill.

Something similar happened me this morning, single carriageway, 90kph, minding my own business when a van coming opposite comes across the road, forcing me in on the hard shoulder, and barely missed the back of my trailer.
So after my lucky escape I did what I felt was the right and normal thing that any of us would do having just had a near death experience.
I hit resume on the cruise control and got on with my life.

90Kmh and CC on a single carriageway?! Ooooooh, you criminal.

Please won’t someone think of the children?

I know Cc as well but in my defence, you try squeezing out a tea bag on an Irish single carriageway while trying to keep at 90ks without using cruise control. It can be done mind you but only if you take your other foot down off the dash.

I’d say that’s the root of all your inter-lane difficulties. It’s not your lane any more than it’s mine. It’s piece of road that you’re using.

If you’re in lane three of a motorway and somebody flashes you out of the way do you:

A: Brake-test them.

B: Move out of the way.

C: Don’t be daft, why would I be there unless I was overtaking?

Answer: C - Why would I even want to be there, half the time all of the lanes are moving at the same speed…standstill

Seriously though, no need to be in that lane unless lorries are having a long duel in reality. If its a short duel, I’ll sit there and wait for the pass and then get my foot down again and catch up with the maniacs in the most outer lane!

Ah, an Irish single carriageway… The fun I had overtaking people on those roads in a left ■■■■■■. Much easier at night, as if you couldn’t see headlights hitting the blind corner you just went for it

The problem with that was that the locals used the same theory except they would turn off there lights to see if they could see yours. Any we sir, are off topic and that won’t do.
I find the fact that the op would write a letter absolutely ridiculous as ye may have gathered and suggest he man up, take a deep breath and realise that as a profrssional driver, occasionally you need to do the thinking for other road users as well. You had a close one, won’t be the last, prob not the first, move on.

Hahaha! All of that is so true!

How do you manage to have a head on crash in or on the M1?

Sorry but looking at the video it appears that you are easing back to let the other truck in and if you had carried on easing back at the same rate everything would be fine but half way through this simple manouver you accelerate to cause the incident to escalute from a simple let in to a near smash you mirrors and cab up incident.

Course its hard to tell if the other truck slowed and you didn’t actually accelerate after all but are just lacking the talent to compensate for the other truckers actions, also he may have had faith that you where commited to letting him in that he switched from checking his nearside mirror to ensuring when he pulled in he (or she) wasn’t too close to the vehicle in front.

Yes the other truck could have give you more room but don’t forget you where in the best position to make this manouver a simple one and then stay relaxed for the next few minutes instead of looking like a fool on youtube.

Sorry if this is harsh but you where indecisive (or just plain reckless) which can have serious consequences, learn from it and life will get so much more relaxed.

I’ve done worse in my time though

I guess the “head on” must have been this one - that bees chris posted on the “Pictures of your truck” thread. page 88.

Once upon a time, in XMG ( crossmaglen ) to the unwashed  I was tailend Charlie with the Gympy, :sunglasses: when we heard a LOUD BANG! I’m lucky to be ALIVE! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:
