Lorry road user charge nets first fines

Inspections are authorised by the Port owners,FPN’s are not,the port owners cannot authorise FPN’s only Legislation/Law of the Land can do that and
it does not exist but if your not up to the job Gas Gas don’t worry about it my MP is today writing to Patrick McCloughlin.

Talking of ports, wasnt there a case years ago in Dover, which at the time was deemed a public place and a driver got stopped by the police for DD, anyway his solicitor deemed it possible that he could go into the port to go fishing, and at the gate he was stopped, and told that it wasnt public right of way, so once he got that in writing, managed to get the driver off the charge.

With regard to Road charge of foreign trucks when a truck is leaving the uk he can buy a eurovignette in the ports, so why didnt the English use the system in other Ports, now Dover being the busiest why not use the either the ferries, or the port itself to buy the GB vignette, all the police or Vosa has to do is look at the windscreen, if a driver hasnt got one, then he will be refused a ferry, surely we have enough technology to sort out an easy problem, rather than fine companies.
With regard to cars there is nearly always a toll to pay, with a few exceptions, but tghe only problem with the UK is it took way too long to implement.

Wing and a prayer:
One big flaw in vosa’s system though.

Not a flaw as such, I would put it down to VOSA’s stupidity. You say you spoke on the phone, so he must have stopped the vehicle and not bothered to check the vehicles VRM… Did he threaten a fine for the wrong trailer number plate too :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Both where at Dartford. so they sneak up behind you and then overtake and pull you in. so they read the trailer plate number. Drivers where on the way after 10 mins. just a glance at hours and the truck and trailer and away. no gripe from me really as like i said we have paid 1 year up front. so if they catch the ones who have not paid then alls well and good. and the reason i spoke on the phone was that Both drivers are German and not got the very best of English.

Armagedon:

I’d have thought once DVSA are ‘through the gates’ they could do everything that they can do by the roadside. Be interested to see McCloughlin’s reply though.

Certainly people have been prosecuted for DD in ports premises
