Keith was a good bloke. I was doing regular Morocco work when he was on it I reckon in that top picture he was parked across the road from Fit Fashion, which was up a lane on the back route from Bouknadel to Sale. Robert

0twin splitter probably soon to be transplanted to Foden Alpha .
I like the sound of that.
The next gen’ Alpha I had new had the “Twin Split Switch” but was a conventional 12spd range change (the 8 and 16spd options had the Daf top on). I had a few drivers that asked “how I’d got one of those ■■■■■■■ awful twin splitters in a new lorry” and a couple just couldn’t accept it was a conventional synchromesh.
I’m not old enough to’ve driven one, but remember Dad having one in a Foden 8wheeler, married with a Gardner 270 turbo. Smiths only bought two with twin splits, apparently on cost grounds and also the fact only a few drivers could use them.

Hi
When you look at the picture of the ERF EC I think it still stands comparison with modern trucks.
The present generation of Volvo,s DAF,s and Scania,s are ,in modern jargon, so in your face that some trucks of yesteryear seem understated.
I always,s found that climbing into a E or EC series was like putting an old coat on, it was comfortable.
I am not disputing that technology has improved and driver comforts are much superior but character has been bred out of them. I recently had the opportunity to sit behind the wheel of Renault,s latest offering and my first thought was that if I closed my eyes it could have been any one of today’s modern trucks.Am I alone in thinking like this?
Bassman
No not alone ,I absolutely love taking our blue one out the m11 is chipped to at least 500hp with the jake and the twin splitter it really is easy motoring ,it pulls like a train at 44 tonne ,above all I like sleeping on the top bunk and I don’t bother with the curtains ,for day time kips I use the bottom bunk .
Dan
Your comments on the M11 chipped to 500hp.
For a few months I drove an EC with the M11 in set from the factory at 440hp, mated to a twin splitter. This was after coming off a Foden with an M11 at 420hp with a 16 speed ZF.
I couldn’t really tell any difference in power,-----however I once went to an ERF agents “Drive day” and tried an EC with a 14 litreCummins set at 425hp again with a twin split, this was just before the increase to 44t so it was at 38t and I really felt the power in that one, seriously impressed.
I assume from your comment that there is no problems with having the M11 chipped to n500hp? Just to make me really envious, is it an Olympic?

yes Olympic w&d it’s been chipped about 10 years ,we put a rad on it but the difference compared with the sister one is when you’re pulling well it’s got more to give and just flys off ,we didn’t think it would last long but it has been no trouble ,it breathes a bit heavier now but it’s 15 years old ,but still going .
No Rush:

Is the Worsley address the place you can see from the M61 Dan?
Drove by this Summer and it was closed unless I’m mistaken.

Promo pic 360 with eaton twin splitter had it away a few times used to like wagon but hated not being able to lean the drivers seat back very far for a quick shut eye.

Dan perhaps I’m doing something wrong but why isn’t your A50 comment shown
It’s on the drivers forum page 1 I think .
Did anyone experience the valve problems with the early ts boxes where a missed split change could throw the cir clip off the back end of the box ,I seem to remember it was some valves which were replaced by the Austin beech valve ?
