Sploom:
On the M40 last night the speed was reduced to 50mph,also the signs inicated lane one closed.
So,I reduce to 50 and take up the middle lane.No less than 3 trucks coming up behind then overtook me in lane 3.I dont know why the left lane was closed, couldnt see any reason.I pulled back aftetwards. It always amazes me how drivers are prepared to risk a fine and points just to make that little bit more progress.
How about you?
Would you have overtaken me too…
What is this “fast lane” you speak of ?
I think you’re the first person to mention fast lane [emoji23]
I think it was me.I put it in the title to the thread.
I just wanted to make sure I got at least one reply ti the thread, thats the reason.I knew someone would correct me on it,lol
I find this topic interesting and have been meaning to start a thread on it. Although I would’ve put outside lane in the title
It’s fairly rare to see a lorry in the outside lane. Sometimes go months without seeing it. Some times see it twice in one week. Foreigners do it more often than our own drivers. Although I did see a Howdens in the outside lane of the roadworks on the M6 just after Thelwall recently. Hope it wasn’t our resident
What I find amusing is how many drivers seem to think that in certain situations, using the outside lane is OK. Normal even. Like in the weight restricted sections on the A14 and A34. I see lorries using that every time I go through, without fail. Does someone want to explain why the penalty for this would be any different if caught by the cops ? I’m assuming it would be the same.
Conor:
Why were you in the middle lane? Unless you were overtaking you should have been in Lane 1. YOU USE ALL OPEN LANES UNTIL YOU GET TO THE MERGE POINT THEN MERGE IN TURN. That’s even in the Highway Code. They overtook you because you were needlessly sat in lane 2 doing 50MPH for an advisory not a legally required 50 MPH (it wasn’t in a red circle so is advisory only) when you weren’t overtaking so were MIDDLE LANE HOGGING BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT. What’s even worse is you’d not even got to the yellow lane closure marker boards, you’d literally just passed under ADVISORY signs of a lane closure with an ADVISORY limit that are usually put up over a mile before where the signs for the lane closure begins.
Given that and the fact you call the outside lane the fast lane and don’t know how zip merging is supposed to work or the difference between advisory and mandatory road signs methinks you need to go get some driving lessons or go back to Tesco home delivery.
Conor, you are a heart attack waiting to happen. It is angry stress merchants like you that give good drivers a bad name.
