bob dowle was not flavour of the month back in the 80’s as when he was a magistrate he gave shakin stevens a 12 month ban for drink driving in the forest!
Here’s a question for you old Forest of Deaners. I once had a drink or three with a BRS bloke from the Forest of Dean and in the digs that night he kept saying ‘Who shot the bear’. Being a Bedfordshire lad, (bricks, Brussels sprouts and Italians) I didn’t have a clue what he was on about. Does anybody know?
No one shot the bear And if you ever visit Ruardean its best not to ask Dont ask about the pig on the wall either. And this is way off topic.
It may be slightly ‘off topic’ but ‘who shot the bear?’

If anyone wants to know how the bear met its demise and who killed it,have a look at the Sun Green website and you will read about and the court case.Off topic/Off topic It was Ruardean where they put the pig on the wall to watch the band march by.
The term, “Pandora’s Box” comes to mind
And I s’pose nobody’s missed me since my computer decided to crash?
aaaaahhhhhh. WELCOME TO THE ROYAL FOREST OF DEAN, WHERE MEN ARE MEN AND SHEEP ARE TIMID!.
They say a similar thing up here about Buxton, matey! Although, apparently, cousins are preferable to sheep in most cases
After nattering to “hummingcummins” , his brother and father today, I reckon it’s about time this thread went back on the front page. A slight detour off my northward route took me back to my old stamping ground. A couple of pics to follow tomorrow providing I can get enough of a head of steam on the computer.
ROF, Back int’frozen North.
Back at work after the Christmas break. Maintenance takes priority!
Any guesses where? No prizes, too easy!
Caught a bit of sunshine in RR’s yard so thought I’d try and please the Wrecker fraternity as well as the general haulage lads.

A few taken at the BRS depot in the mid 60’s
And this is what it looks like now…
I have to admit that I spent more than my fair share of time in the premises opposite! Didn’t have the traffic lights in those days though.
Nice one ROF.Harolds garage.Does Richard need so many breakdown trucks?
I did wonder why he needs so many of an apparently similar capacity. Perhaps it’s over-compensation for having to make do with the old rattler that he had in your day!
Seems like the only thing that hasn’t changed in Merrin End is the pub.
Your name was mentioned, by the way.
Nice to see that have still got that 4 axle ERF wrecker.
ROF,Did you find out how many trucks still operating at Richard Reads?
No, sorry. Didn’t think of it.
By the way, do you have a copy of “The Read Story” by Paul Heaton?
Yes signed by Richard
Got mine from Harold’s on Thursday. Brought back a good few memories, also workmates I haven’t seen for years.
