lurpak:
here’s a couple of photos that brian cox gave me of edwards of lydbrook , can’t post a picture of his seddon as it won’t let me but you have already put some on
the mk5 is the one brian found and was being restored but my mate lost interest and has sold it to tony lloyd it was new to aec works transport fleet in 1960 and edwards bought 2 off them in, we think, 1970 ,odg 835g and that one tdd 835h.they were not redgisterd when aec ran them.hence the 1969/70 redg Nos(MK5’s finnished in 1963/4 when the ergo came out)i spent a lot of time when i was lad in edwards old wagons with my late father and a trip to the midlands in the late sixties in a MK3 aec mammoth major loaded with sheet steel tipping and then loading scrap bales out of brassways and back to ebbw vale to tip and load for the next day was for me one of me best memories.i can still smell the diesel in the cab,the ropes and chains on the cab floor, and the noise! was music as we climbed up the (old) black rock flat out at 10 mph!.aaahhh memories…NURSE!!! MORE SEDITIVE PLEASE.

Yers a good un…
That one of Phil Reads needs a bit of TLC
A few old photo’s from the past…
Dave Vaughan driving a couple of DAF’s for Harry Thorne, Lydney.
Dave drove this one for John Mann…
… And this one for Evans & Reid, mainly on coal and coke.
My first lorry [Ford Cargo] and the old chap at truckfest,Shepton Mallet.
I remember Harry Thorne and the yard he had on station road. I think he had a Mack truck at one time. Just wondered what ever happened to Sam? I remember he used to sleep at the yard and he also had that ‘A’ series transit, wish I still had all my photo’s…

Good morning,
Just looking through this and broke into a smile which is rare . Dean I think I got some of you at Truckfest(Well your arm poking out from behind your curtains
) I have some old photos of Cecils given me the other week so will blag a scanner from somewhere and get them on here. I have a few of the trucks I drove for T.S Thomas on the fridges. I found this pic somewhere else on here of the sister 143 to the one I drove which Little Matty had. Anyway back to work as its 02:15 and my coffee’s going cold. Great thread.
Cheers Dean
Just wondered if anyone out there remember’s Shala Davies, not sure on the spelling. He used to park his trucks where Loveridge’s garage is at the bottom of Cinderford. I think he ran Maudsley trucks, but he may have had others. The only photo I’ve seen is an old B&W front shot of a brick lorry that he ran. My uncle used to be a mechanic for them. Can anybody shed any light on any other pictures etc?
hi paul.it was shela davis (S.L.DAVIS) that you mentioned.they were on bricks mostly and when he sold up edwards bought most of his 8 wheelers, one of which (albion caladonian redg No VAD 487) is being restored.seems like no one has any pics.even asked mr clutterbuck the photo and postcard collector, but none so far.

I remember Shela Davies`s ERF-8 Wheeler hauling hand made bricks for the Coleford Brick and Tile Company. It was painted yellow with a white roof and red signwriting. This vehicle was supplied by ERF Distributor Richard Read of Longhope.
edwards bought up this erf and some others.ALBION CALADONIAN VAD487,3 ERF 8 WHEELERS 6356 AD, 8271 AD ,2802 DG, AN AEC MERCURY ARTIC BAD 807B, AND AN ALBION REIVER BDG 334B,LOOKS LIKE THAT ONE ABOVE IS 2802 DG.
When would this photo have been taken and I wonder if it is being loaded at Cinderford? Does anyone know how many people would have worked for them and what happened when they were taken over? Too many questions for a friday night maybe…
WASSUP PAUL.HOW COME THAT ERF IS IN YELLOW AND NOT RED/GREEN? THE GUY RESTORING THE ALBION HAS FOUND RED CHASSIS PAINT AND GREEN UNDER THE EDWARDS PAINT.
How ya doin Bob, our mart said about last Sunday (bit of a disappointment, for our brother at least) still, perhaps he wasn’t the first owner. Maybe somebody ought to ask RR. It would be fascinating to look through his archive, wouldn’t it■■?
is martin a friend of RR on facebook? mabe he can shed some light on this for us
Martin & Facebook don’t go together in the same sentence. He got a job to use my computer without supervision…
Not many family - owned haulage businesses can claim to still operate after 76 years, but Wm. Parry & Sons of
St. Briavels must be amongst the oldest in the Forest Of Dean. Here is a photograph of one of their Austin 7 tonners,
taken in 1962. The lorry carried agricultural goods, livestock feedstuffs, and livestock when the cattle body was fitted.
Parrys owned 3 of this type, with one on contract milk kit collection. I was kindly given this photo by Robin Harris ,a good friend of mine , who has driven for the Parry family for many years and well-known by farmers in the Forest Of Dean, and also by numerous other livestock hauliers further afield.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
