Harry, out of interest, how would they finish in Istanbul on the Monday night and get to Beirut and set up in time for the concert on the Wednesday night?? Given the size of the set, the distance to be covered and the fact that you cant go anywhere near Syria, would they be running two seperate stages??
Is there a ferry service from that southern Turkish coast into Lebanon or would it be a unique stage set trucked into Lebanon / Beirut via Cyprus specifically for that one concert?

A nice run out for someone though!!
I don’t actually know about this tour but they normally do run more than one set, I know Madonna had three separate sets on the last tour so that at any given time, one gig was going on, the next one was being set up and the last one broken down. It could possibly go by airfreight though.

On a tour like that it is most probable they would have chartered their own ferry for the production trucks but as Harry said the stage would already be in place
Peter Gilder and Sons chartered their own ferry to get around the animal activists blocking the ports years ago, a lady protestor was ran over by a truck, it was her fault. What they could not understand was that calves had to be packed close together to avoid being hurt if the truck had to brake, they would fall over in the trailer.

That was only the stage on madonna. Very much like u2 she has 3 stages. All the stuff that went onto the stage went to every show and there wasnt a seperate system…
I am looking at moving to the UK for a few years and would like to drive on the continent. What class of licence do I need? I hold an MC (Multi-combination) in Western Australia and have 15 years experience towing doubles, triples and quad trailers including oversize for the mines, Dangerous Goods, overweight (130+tonne), overheight, ugly freight etc. Any advice appreciated.

As far as I know, your Australian Truck Licence will only be a nice souvenir over here.
You’ll have to go through the whole process of learning to pass a driving test all over again (*see the Newbies Forum for the best advice on doing that).
Although you can get work for almost any class of goods carrying vehicle, the vast majority of work is done with a standard 40 tonne artic.
Reading through this forum, you’ll see that there isn’t a great deal of Euro-driving work available. That doesn’t mean there isn’t any, but you need a bit of luck and a lot of perseverance to find it.

I called in to their office and got handed an application form in German, the place is by a river near Waidring in the Tyrol valley, lots of food and juice tankers and all aspects of haulage, they go all over from Russia to Scandinavia, the guy in the office spoke German so i was not able to take the job, but if you get the load details sent to the cab that seems ok.
