Lookimg for a way into euro driving

I can ask what’s around and what’s coming up, and what they are looking for in terms of crew and if any of it is any use to you I can pass on the info. Quite often a roadshow will go away with two drivers, firstly to minimise travelling times between venues and secondly because setting up the trailer is a two-man job.

It is a bit late in the year for tours to be going out, and it’s been quiet on the promo front for the last few years anyway, but promo is normally one of the first sectors to pick up when recessions end as companies which have cut back on budgets realise that they have to establish an early presence in a growing economy.

Meanwhile, good luck with the Class 1 test, assuming you pass then get out and get as much experience as you can, but if you want to do European work then don’t be dissuaded from trying for it as soon as you get your pass certificate. You might get knock-backs galore along the way but nobody will be angered by your applying.

Back in the 1990s, I very much wanted to work for a firm called Kepstowe Freight Services, who specialised in work to the former Soviet Union, but it was well known that they had hundreds of applications for each job going. I spent a month intensively learning basic Russian, then phoned them up, said I was after a job and that I spoke some Russian, they invited me up for a chat and a month later phoned me to ask me if I would go away the following week for a seven week tour of motor shows in Ukraine and the Czech Republic. The point is that it’s keenness and “value added” that promo firms look for, rather than 20 years of experience delivering groupage.

Like I say, I’m going to be chatting to a few people next month, and putting the word out about my own venture as well finding out what’s in the pipeline. I can’t make you any promises, and if I’ve given the impression that I can get you a shoo-in for a job then that’s not how I meant it to come across.

I’ll PM you in future if I hear of anything you might be interested in looking at. Once again, good luck with the test.

Thanks once again have dropped you a message.

PLEASE ,PLEASE ,PLEASE,behave. There are drivers out there doing jobs that they just shouldn’t be doing. Some have waited years and some that should have been taken on and trained up straight away, and would have been good at it. As for rock & roll transport - yes the hardest part is being away for so long, not mega-experience

when i did it, being away for so long was one of the main attractions to the job!

Who were you guys on for if you dont mind sharing?

i dont know about swayze, but i drove for these (this was me in Tampere,Finland)

The guy I am running for asked me if I knew someone for a tour starting tomorrow. But I only just found this. It’s sorted now I think.

Sweet pic mate! If anything comes up feel free to drop me a pm. Im currently trying every option available!

Best way into the R & R game for you would be getting onto one of the driver recruitment companies that supply double drivers for the tours, someone like Busking but afraid don’t know any contact details for any of them! If you can get on there & get to meet some drivers & get ya face known & get trusted & respected then when a job comes up on for one of the companies who knows you may get lucky!
Having driven for 50 years & 20 million miles don’t mean a lot on touring but if your face fits then your in!

Thanks for the sound advice there mate. I will do some digging and see what I can find.

Cheers

Have you tried the majority of Irish companies, wether its livestock or fridge work, i seem to see a hell of a lot of young lads, english and Irish running all over europe… Not saying that they are the " be all and end all " but whilst your young free and single its a foot in the door, and not necassarily the best conditions, but one job can always lead to another…

Or start out on overnight Palletline hub work,or multi drop city work.

phone s&k in barry money aint upto much but they will most probably give you a start easy job and they send you everywhere and anywhere like i said only thing is the money ■■■■■

Cheers folks does s n k have a wesite cant seem.to find it?!

Rock 'n roll tours are flat out next year, apparently everyone who tours is touring next year, if you haven’t found anything by then…

Sounds good mate am trying a few different places to get some experince for now, what sort of time of year do they kick off? Applied to stagetruck aswell so we shall see!

The season normally kicks off around Easter time so I would be visiting people around a month before then.

Having said that, “Sting” is doing a tour in November which takes in Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don in Russia, Istanbul in Turkey, and Beirut in the Lebanon…

viagogo.co.uk/Concert-Ticket … ng-Tickets

and a little birdie tells me that TransAm are still looking for a driver or two to help them out with this.

If you do phone them, just tell them that Harry Monk sent you, and you’ll be a shoo-in.

Depeche Mode are due in Tel Aviv for a concert, not sure the dates.
