Long gone west country haulage company and ERF Dealer

Image 18-11-2017 at 19.29 (4).jpegI thought I would dig out some old pictures of a long gone west country haulage firm I worked for back in the late seventies. Frank Tucker Haulage of Heavitree Exeter. They later moved to Peamore Garages just outside Exeter. The company was started by Frank Tucker and later when I was there was owned by brothers Bill and Erne Tucker son’s of Frank. Later another director joined called Burt Walters, I think its safe to say they they have all passed on.
I was 22 when I joint them, only got a job there because my father was a driver there and there were half a dozen other father and son drivers there. It seemed to be their policy as when you were a boy you would go on the truck with your father and learn roping and sheeting before becoming a driver. In those days once tipped in London we loaded sugar back from Silvertown for shops all over Devon and Cornwall on flatbed trailers. Would be interesting to see who else remembers them from that time.

Remember driving that one when ever artic was in for inspection, it was based at Blackhill sand and chipping quarry. Use to enjoy the odd day delivering 9 ton of sand or 20mm all in to building sites around Exeter.
