Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

v7victor:
Try once more any body remember Foots transport?

Hi v7victor I’ve Just been talking to Mappo about your question and we both remember Foots Transport but just can’t remember what trucks they had but I said I thought they had a Foden Tony seems to remember they having rigids and can’t think where they were but I’m sure some one on here must know.
Regards Jimski.
Mappo’s just been overtaken by an old Morris thousand in his new MAN on the M3 … He told me not to tell anyone

The only Foot I knew in that area was a Charles Foot, who was, I think, The son in law of Charles Knott the promoter of Southampton Speedway at Bannister Court Stadium. He (Charles Foot) ran Poole Speedway, under the Knott banner, in the '60s, but don’t know if there is a link to the transport firm.

Thanks for the answers ,i used Foots a lot like i said early 70s,i think they had an office above a shop in Oxford st just off the docks, the loads were mainly sheep skins ,like i said i came down on nights they tipped my load at fawley and reloaded me then fetched the truck back to the Floating Bridge Cafe were i stayed (a very good service in eyes) vic. PS.i don’t if they had any trucks i thought they were just a clearing house, but i did meet the old boss a few years later up north,he had a Ford Thames pickup he said he had a contract delivering nuts and bolts to the oil industery in Aberdeen. IIRC his name was Dougie.vic.

Hi all, now were all confused Richard !!
R Jimski :unamused:

Do you guys used to know any BI drivers from Sholing, when they were Public Benefit Coal,i heard the Tim Allen cooked the accountancy books to make the value seem higher than it was.
Heard that Grant, used to have the pegaso,is running a pub somewhere, liked his bacardi and cokes, got stung by a lady number cruncher, when he was owning his truck on Portuguese work,so long as he had enough to pay for the one armed bandit game machines in Spain, then he never checked the figures.
Stuart the animal Smith, got killed on the way to Morocco, hit a broken down bus,a mechanic was killed, the cops slanted the story like it was his fault,as the were too slow getting to the break down to assist, apparently, they found gold hidden in the cab doors, that he would sell in the uk.
An ex army guy called Ken Hughes on BI,the Aldridge father and son family,Trevor Sweet, had a gypsy woman from Portugal with him all the time, think he died of lung problems a long time ago.

MaggieD:
Has Fergie got a Fergie ?

Hope you and Mrs Fergie are well.

Nah alright mate, i wont.
I see you,ve been busy in your " anorak shack " ( shed) then Jim, nice looking model but i know what it,s
like close up. :unamused: :unamused:

Charlie…I should,ve known it was you the other day in the Morris Minor.
The sign on yer TIR plated trailer full of Frizzante saying "Susa - Mt.Cenis - Alton or bust " was a bit of a givaway.

Maggie D…Of course Fergies tractor is a left ■■■■■■. The stacks on the right. :unamused: :unamused:

Toby…I was working at British International for a brief period during the time the company was sold
to Taylor Barnard and then bought back again. Bit of dodgy dealing going on there, but others are more qualified to
comment on this than me.

The August re-union is creeping up on us lads, look forward to seeing you all there.

Hi Pat I remember Ian Lawsons old F88 I bet Gazzer does as well, credit to him for the condition of his F12 I saw it only last week still working for a living… Good old Volvo!
Regards Jimski

Oh blimey, it is still working? Fantastic! I presumed the picture was of a truck long since gone.

Hi Dieselcowboy,
I took this pic about 6 weeks ago,Ian Lawson has owned it from new and I remember shipping out on Thoresens Southampton - Le Havre on it’s first trip,it’s still in immaculate condition, and a credit to him he always said it was going to be the last truck he brought !
Ian runs to Sweden sometimes with it and I think Volvo have earmarked it for their museum there.
Regards
Richard

again-WOW! All credit to him them, what a star. Shame Volvo want it, so do I !!
