Ainacs,
Was that you pulling the wheely on the KTM? Quality.
Also a Triumph and a Bandit which can’t be a bad thing. I ride a 94 Speed triple but had a 57 plate 1250 bandit before that. Beautiful scenery, I’ve only driven trucks and cars in Europe but never a bike yet?
I’m sure a uncle of mine told me you were big in go-carts many moons ago, is that the case?
Mike
Those bikes were going quicker up the Cenis than I did in an F86…thanks for posting…

I think that should read TOOOOO big for go-carts
Here’s me popping a wheely on an old Royal Enfield 700cc Consellation I had rebuilt some 40 years ago
No go-carts but did do Bangers for a while!!
ainacs,
Sorry, maybe it was bangers then. Memory isn’t what it was (head injury), do you know someone called Sandy a few years older than you I guess?
Are those bangers pictures at Matchams, it looks like the bottom end near the pits of old? I remember watching them at Chestnut avenue and Allington Lane as a kid.
So was the KTM wheely you?
Mike

Hi Mike no not me on the KTM.
Yes i used to know a Sandy Martin many years ago when I lived in Southampton, why do you ask?
A few more banger pics and yes it was the pit bend at Matchams.
Even my old Transit ended up on the track we saved the diesel engine by fitting a 2 litre pinto engine.

And not one of those nasty lorries in sight.
Would have liked to have seen him try the Itaian side at that speed on " the steps ".
Hello Rich
Did you get my message■■?
aniacs
Sandy is an Uncle of mine and used to come away with me for a week or so each year when I was on Mac Scott, he mentioned Pat Duffy a few times and I don’t know of another one.
I lost a lot of memory detail when I had a head injury a few years so some things are patchy but I recall some things in parts. Nice Jag, about as good as it gets for a banger?
Mike
Is that Jimski saying to Pat
" Pat have you finished with my car ? I’ve got a job to do with it in the morning"
Hi All
I cant find the message in my PM box Rich
Maggie D I had D781 PLG in possiblely her last UK days as I sold her for export.
Many regrets now as it had no rust & no speed limiter what a machine it would also pull the house down.
V8 Scanias begged to be in her slip stream
.
Hi all Hi MaggieD are you saying my cars are rough !!! hope your well Rich, nearly finished Mappos F12 then the trailer, then I’ll have a go at that Iveco of yours!!
Regards Jimski
Pat, Re the scammell on the new dual carriageway construction: I can’t see where that would be on the Havant Bypass…It’s the long uphill curve that has me puzzled as I can’t picture it on the road as it is today and the Emsworth section wasn’t built until the early 80’s. Do you have any more info?

Hi Todd
Can only tell you what Chris Hill told me! I will ask him when he comes in next and I know that he keeps an eye on this thread anyway so he will have the answer i am sure.
I know he did say that those concrete sections have been replaced with steel beams.
Regards Pat
Hi All
I spoke with Chris this morning
Its definatley the Havant bypass facing west.
Chris say all the beams came into Fratton Goods yard & then Hills moved them to site, he was there at the time.
There are other pictures of the operation in the Bills of Hotley book it says it happened in 1964.
The picture is very near to the Halmatic Factory where in 1965 Charlie Tigwell whilst driving a Scammell Highwayman for Hills delivered a 100’ gantry crane beam also from Fratton goods yard.
The twin turbo Seddon was travelling from the De Havillands factory at Christchurch to their Hatfeild premises in 1961 the running width was 22’
So I guess it was at one of those two airfeilds but I wasn’t thought of in those days so i’m only guessing
Cheers Rich
