Amazing that such boneshakers were used on distance work let alone Euro or ME work.
There were quality motors from all Euro manufacturers then, and ERF & Scammell were no more than 10 years(ish) behind.

It had a sleeper cab not bad for 74, my first motor over the water was a day cab Mandator so I would have been envious of that Seddon, Buzzer
I had an M reg LHD LPS1932 Merc, V10 320bhp
No comparison to the Seddon Tin can - but I guess OK for an OD trying to better himself - been there and got the T Shirt
To my mind shameful for a company unless they pay extra for the discomfort & noise>
IIRC the only ones I ever drove didn’t even have a proper seat, just a perch fastened to the rear Bulkhead.
And not to mention the draft up your left leg where the iron bar for a gear lever went through a hole in the floor.

Hi John
I THINK Mo kept one the Transcons, not 100% sure, and if he did whether he’s still got it…
one of his lads comes on here now and then so he’ll be able to confirm.

Hi Dave trust you and Liz are fine, we are all good here got a grandsons 18th bash here on Saturday but his dad has more friends coming than Joe, been busy today getting in haylage bales trying to keep up with the contractor. As for Mo he did keep one and gave it to his son Russell who let it go to an enthusiast who promised to keep it in the Baker livery, JD.
Hello John

Remember them well !
I dunno about relaxing in a TT bunk but to me that looks like any recent modern day cab bunk…■■
Hi all, that could be ( but don’t think it is ) a young Wally Hawkins.

Although not a Southampton company any one who back in the day was in & about the fruit market back in the day would have seen these trucks every night, there was a chap who came down on Sunday night as a passenger who did organisation of back loads his name was Aubrey an older gentleman with beard and a pipe always on the go, he had digs here all week then went back with the Friday truck back home for the weekend. cheers Buzzer

Glad you brought up digs John…ive been trying to think of the digs in Southampton that our Stockton night men use to stay in during the day, I’m not sure where it was but I sometimes picked them up at the top end of Millbrook road by the railway bridge so they wouldn’t be far from that area, I keep thinking they were called after the name of the owner, but its over 50 years ago now… obviously no local lads would have stopped there, but can anyone remeber them ?

That’s the thing about digs, we knew them all over the country, the good ones, the bad ones and everything in between, but never in our own areas.
For me the ‘mysteries’ in Nottingham were all along London Rd., presumably because the cattle market just across the canal opposite, was the lorry park. I have no idea what category they fitted into.
