Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

Hi all, can anyone shed any light on this ■■?

Tony. I reckon that the trailer belonged to Solent Carter. Regards Charlie.  PS. Only a wild guess mind you.

I would guess that the trailer was bought by Russians and has been spotted and photographed running into Germany or somewhere. When euroliners started to replace tilts the Russians bought large numbers of them cheaply for the home market. I sold my own tilt to a Lithouanian and I often wonder if it’s still floating about on the tundra! Robert

Thanks for that Robert, makes sense…

Was that not to do with John Carter, something triggered a grey cell not sure he was pure as pure, Buzzer.

The only John Carter I know is Carters Tents and tarpaulins.

Hi Charlie,
I thought that was Mark Key !!

Hope you and Rose are well, is it clear air in Alton yet?
Regards
Richard

Hi Richard. All is well here in the Shires. The air is clean and pure once more. I thought that you meant Mark Tyme the clock maker.Hope you and Angie are fit and well. Regards Charlie

Charles glad to hear all is well in Alton once more and that the air has cleared, this will make your journey to Church this lovely morning more enjoyable as I have been told you are a regular every week praying for forgiveness for the misuse of Richard and Angies DKV card which they still want returned even if it has now expired.Buzzer.

Morning Buzzer.Yes I did go to Mass this morning and after to Confession. The priest threw me out after an hour because he ran out of time.Re the DKV card. No fuel. However I found a garage that will service the camper on the card. Don’t tell Richard. Regards Charlie

Hi All
Thought I better check on everyone’s welfare as nobody is typing on this forum & we nearly dropped off page 1.
Cheers
Rich

Talking of welfare…Charlie, any news on “Spadger”? Mick Hellawell asked after him today.

Well any one remember this hostillery The Swan hotel on the A27 at Bursledon, its all flats and houses now but I lived in the first house up the road from this shot for the first 22 years of my married life in a house called Thorndale, how things change over the years today they are building a shed load of new properties opposite and the place floods on a high spring tide Buzzer.

Ho Gaz. I went to see Terry in the hospice today. He is quite confused and didn’t recognise me at first. Very weak. His two daughters were there and told me anytime now. He is on oxygen and very weak. Please pass on to Mick. I’ll keep you posted. Regards Charlie.

Charlie very sad news about “spadger” and well done to you for paying him a visit even if he did not know you at first. Its horrible when you see someone you remember so full of life wasting away, I watched my brother in law do that and it’s hard to take in, cheers Buzzer.

I do JD… As you may recall I lived in Swanwick Lane opposite the old brickworks for a good few years and then the old Harper’s Cottage at the top of the road.
I recall seeing you going past quite often with your horses and rig… That’d be around late 90’s early 2000’s.
Anyway , I digress.
I used to call into the old swan sometimes. It was a lovely old pub back then…
Sad that it’s being built on, but that’s the way of things the world over.

I remember Thorndale very well. Ah sure she served you grand that house , as they would say here
A great thought that you went from parking a few units over the road in a layby to Tracey Island via Andersons Road…

Terry Sparrow is a name I’ve heard bandied about throughout my driving career but I don’t think I ever met him…
Very sad he’s in a bad way .
As John says , it’s terrible to see someone waste away like that.
There will be many on here who have witnessed something similar and gone through that experience.

Was he on for Skilbeech at one time?

Terry “Spadger” Sparrow.2012

Very sad to hear Terry is ill. Doubtless on the lower part of that photo there`ll be a pair of mirror shined black boots!

always clean and tidy our Spadg although he did normally wear a tie My thoughts are with him .Andy
