Hi All
I think F J C Transport was Peter Cook from New Milton that Jimmy Alford took over & he became the transport manager running the scrap, coal & anything that would go in a steel bulk trailer even Ford tractors from Basildon this may be all wrong but I don’t think so. I will ask Smurf when I see him.
I think David Laurie had something to do with it and it was the remnants of Ingrem Furness from New Milton.
Cheers Rich
Would that be Neil Cooks dad? Neil now works for Geoff Kilbey in New Milton and I know he had some links to working at Ingrems in New Milton
Back in the 70s I wsa a subbie to Peter Cook when he was running Furness transport out of Gerry Ingrems yard,I was only a nipper back then didnt know very much, but the guys on Ingrems and Ferness looked after me well. I know there were a pair of brothers on one of the companys,I m pretty sure one of them was called Walt, and he drove a bulker. The other names might come back at some time or other.I also remmember aq guy called Alan, drove a Sedon, they did a lot of tree truncks up to Fort William, the Sedon was only a dream for me back then, all I had was a bedford tk 4 wheeler.

Could you be thinking of Walt Samber? had a brother Jack. Walt was driving the Ferness Buffalo in (I think) 1973 onwards, knew him well as I spent several years working with him on Abbott & griffiths/ New milton Timber, also I got a Buffalo at the same time whilst working for A Curtis & Sons from Hordle. Used to collect bulk coal from the pits in the midlands and south Wales and Ingrems had a contract to haul pit props (from the New Forest) for the forestry commision so we woul often meet Ingrems lads for a brew up the road. Gerry Ingrem had many local contracts being an ‘A’ licence holder and even a tipper on contract to Limmer & Trinidad asphalt from Lymington, as you may guess I was a New Milton lad in those days.

Hi John,
I totally rebuilt that engine and it was nearly oil tight, the only leak was from one of the rocker covers just couldn’t cure that one!It also had a funny little short neutral lever on top of the side of the gearbox!
I spent about 6 months rebuilding the whole bike it really flew ,small tank old Le Vellocette seat pan Triumph exhaust pipes with tiny mutes in the pipe
I had 3 Enfields in various states of condition I made this one from the 3 the engine was definitely Constellation the lightest frame of the 3 was a Meteor and so on, then I sold a variety of spares to lots of different people advertising then was in the ‘Exchange & Mart’ and MCN

Hello Jake
Are you a Mr Samba & in Marchwood recently
Cheers Rich
Sorry no relation to the Sambers although I know you are probably refering to a ‘current’ Samber truck with a ‘Jake’ number plate in the windscreen. I am retired now but for my last full time job I worked eight years for Hoyer Red fleet (chemicals rather than fuel) out of the Marchwood washout station. Incidentally worked with Jack Samber on my first HGV driving job in 1965 for Dennet & Sons of Sway, don’t time fly!
