Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

gazzer:
We’ve booked in two trucks for the first Beaulieu “Truckmania” next Bank Holiday weekend (Sun & Mon). Ollie and I will be lurking if anyone has intentions of visiting said event.
Hopefully it will be 2 Hampshire Grain vehicles as one is undergoing some cosmetic surgery! NO COMMENT!

What happened there then gazzer, thought you had three now?

neilf:
It’s not often I get to drive in daylight these days but while doing so today I noticed an F88/89 languishing in a farm/yard just south of the M27 between the Hamble and Hedge End junctions. It is dark blue with a white roof and clearly visible from the motorway.

A quick look at google maps shows the entrance to this farm/yard as being in Upper Northam Drive and there seems to be plenty of trucks and coaches in the surrounding yards. If you play with the street view from the M27 you can make it out so I guess it’s been there for a while.

Anybody know anything about it?.

Cheers
Neilf

Hello Neilf
I noticed that F88 / 89 in that farm about 18months ago. It was in the middle of the field but has recently been moved that’s why it is now visible from the motorway I keep meaning to take some photos of it.l know that one of the front windscreens and one of the side windows is missing.
Regards Jacko

Best get & put another sheet over it then

Buzzer:
Thought of another " R " Rising Sun at Wooten near New Milton as we quite often drive the horses out to there passing the edge of Burley then back up the old railway line to Brockenhurst then up the back of the New Forest Showground and back to Minstead, cheers Buzzzer.

Good to see the ‘Rising Sun’ get a mention, used to drink there in 1962 when I lived just down the road at Tiptoe, but that was pre trucking days.

Todays pubs with “S” are Sir Walter Tyrell and Sir john Barleycorn just up the road from Pat, what have you cheers Buzzer.

The Spa Tavern centre of town, The Sheild and Dagger nears St Jame’s Park, The Station Hotel High Street Totton, The Station Bullar Road was a bikers pub, THe Swan Totton, finally what was my dad’s local the Stoneham Arms, Bevois Valley a real old paddy’s pub and just around the corner from our house in Empress Road.

Regards Pat

One I do remember not there now was " The Sun " the tin shack pub painted green down by the traffic lights near the pier, cheers Buzzer.

Dale Haines says the gates are open 6 til 6 where the 88/89 resides.

Spit: We have 3 including “Pint Size” but he don’t count because he’s not sign written!

22stone■■? you joking jimski? would like to have seen that! :open_mouth: Was she ■■■■■■■, and did many get injured?? I remember a pub in Hounslow ( me and Phil collins were born there and we never stayed ) he got famous and rich. I didn’t do either. Anyway, circa 1975 where they had ■■■■■■■ barmaids on a Sunday… Why only on a Sunday??

I’m thinking that this pub thing was my suggestion and I haven’t had that much input! The Lowford arms anyone? Or T for the Trout Inn… The Roebuck outside Wickham on the A32…and the West Meon Hut…

There was a transport cafe on that crossroads? …And a garage…

Hi Jim,

I think that may have been a guy who drove an AEC Tanker used to frequent the Juniper, he now lives on the Isle of Man :unamused:

He was always up for a dance or two
