Back in the days… I had a lad called “Handbag” working for me. Most of the time he did Coca-Cola for John Pearce and a few containers.
Then came the time when it was necessary for him to go abroad for the first time! Off he went for Ralph Davies to the locations mentioned in the foto. However, “Handbag” wasn’t used to being away from home at the weekend, so therefore wouldn’t be getting his usual weekend “ration”. So he visited a local hostelry in Spain for as he put it a “Rub out” 8000ptas. He had the cheek to put it on his running sheet for payment.
Sonya laughed so much…she paid it!
and the USG-Pitt. a tricky one this as United Services Garage of Portsmouth used factory vehicles and matched them to trailers/chassis built by Pitt Trailers Ltd.
from Barton Stacey. this was the Pitt/USG R35 built for the SEB.

I wouldn’t have had the luck!
Brilliant that Gazzer, in my younger days I should have tried that with my employers.
Fair play for Sonya paying it though.
I can’t tell a lie Buzzer, and have to admit that on the odd occasion when under
the influence I did indulge…especially when week ended in Barcelona.
Good old Ramblas.
Hi, anyone remember my parents, Tony Gatrell and Lesley Gatrell, A I Gatrell Ltd based at Hardley Industrial Estate, Hythe, Haulage and Warehousing, used to do a lot for RHM Flour Mills out of the docks, ISR Rubber to Membury, Silver Trout to Billingsgate Fish Market as well as other general haulage. Last tractor unit sold, a White Magirus Deutz 310 (POR 796S) was sold to John Dennis John Dennis T’pt/Hythe Transport) Is it still stuck in the corner of a yard somewhere?
Will try and dig out some photo’s when I get a chance.
