Hi Balders bin reading your little story and your brush with the boys in blue pitty it was not longer as I was getting right in to it,not quite a book but then Mappo’s brother Keith has been going to publish his ever since I have known him and has never quite got there,by the way gardners update is on the other channel DIT so for your update you must log on there, cheers Buzzer.
I didn’t want to go on too long about it, but it was certainly an experience! George Francis used to trade as G. E. Francis and had a few trucks from the 70’s onwards, ran M/E for a while and gets a mention on the Astran thread now and again. He was involved ( allegedly) in the Brinks Mat robbery at Heathrow. If you google " the curse of the Brinks Mat robbery " it’ll throw up some info about him and a few others I mentioned…
perhaps we should start another thread for True Crime and Gardening! Happy Hoeing . Balders.
Hi Stu,
Thanks for the info,Angie & I were visited by 2 plain clothes police one night,we lived in Clanfield at the time, who took us to Cosham Police station, and questioned us about a Dutch tilt we had moved for Martin,we picked it up from the yard at Fareham, and dropped it at Stoke on Trent and run bobtail back to Fareham as per instructions,it was just a normal job and they showed us pics of Martins house taken from the M27 as they had been watching the yard and people for months,we heard no more about it,probably because I broke down under questioning and told them Mr Big, was non other than “TIR Tone” known to his friend (1) as
“Mappo” (seen here with his minder “El Longo”)
Re the A to Z of Southampton Hauliers… One that I don’t think has been mentioned…except I can’t recall the name! They were running Sed Atki’s when they first came out. . Blue livery and their yard was next to the river… something wharf? One of their contracts was rubber from Membury…
Am sure there are enough clues there for some of you bright boys out there to put me right! Cheers all…
Oh, by the way BV , phone is back on, and I might just send you a pic or two…
MaggieD…Flipping heck Richard, now that you,ve resurfaced that photo. I,m
Gonna have to lay low for a while …being instantly recognisable from pic as I haven,t
changed in appearance at all since that was taken.
Balders…the firm at Dell wharf you mentioned was SFM.
It was either Soton or Specialist Freight Movements…I think. As you said the bulk of their
work was hauling and storing ISR rubber.
I used to regularly load from there when I was on for Smith of Maddiston.

You’re a walking encyclopedia Mappo!! Yes, Specialist Freight it was… My old mate Ian Goodfellow was TM there, remember him? A Botley Boy 'e was…
Shady, yes I did pay my bill. Used some of my take from the Brinks Mat heist…
Maggie D Hi Rich… wow that’s some photo! Was that The Kray look?..
Interesting about your visit to the plod. I remember we had some tie up with a Dutch Company. Jan Roost or Roest, from Breskens. They had a warehouse in Stoke, or maybe Cannock was it?? We had a couple of units on for them, groupage out, carpets back they used to run the drivers ragged, always trying to overload and " hours regs, what are they■■?"…

Ye’ah,they went bust because they invested in hundreds of 10 metre tilt trailers. The rest of the world went for 12 metre. I think the idea was to set cheaper rates per trailer to Italy because they could get a cheaper rate on the ferries. I think trains were involved somewhere along the line…? they had a driver called Pinhead.
Hi Harry
I pulled for Jameson and they did not have any 10metre trailers had quite a few Kangaroo Trailers for the railway.
They did not go broke United Transport sold Jamesons to a man called David Unwin who was just an asset stripper not long after he had a big auction of all their equipment.
Same man did this to sevral companies including Renwicks!
