How long were you stood posing for that shot as it appears your clothes have been eaten.
Were you on a genuine rest break at that moment or were you milking it again?

There was another place we used to go to for spare parts caleed Ron Stillo’s you could get nearly anything there as he was a breaker as i remember it was near where i took my bike test which i failed first time.Saterdays were spent cruising round the dealers to see what they had in new,Lawton and Wilson i always thought had the best stock.Jim i never would have had you down as a mod with all the trimmings i thought you would have had a big Triumph.
Charlie you are right my ariel did smoke like hell and the same happened to me as Jimmer thought i was clever and came a guttser on the first bend going to fast but soon got the hang of it and soon progressed to the bigger bikes, course only when i still managed to keep my license which was not for long, cheers Buzzer.Hi John.
Yes I took my bike test near there aswell the test station was in Dukes Road in part of the old glove factory.
Ron Stillo had a yard in Verulam Road, Bevois Valley, in fact it used to be over the wall at the bottom of the garden of the house where dad and my brother and sister now live in in Clausentum Road, we used to live in Empresss Road. I believe Ron is still about and he lives over Botley way, I moved and stored a big crawler crane for him a few years ago, he spends a lot of time in Australia.
I also remember he owned the ex Lowmans (The Bakers) building in Dukes Road where Brains had a workshop I expect Les can confirm that as I think he worked there!
Ron’s son Colin was a fitter for Brains and Pentalver I am pretty certain he died a few years ago.
Regards Pat

When I worked at Prince’s I used to go across the road for my dinner some days to the “Pop In” Cafe which is still there, run by different people but still could be family to a big guy with a moustache, he had it then in the late '70’s…Frank?Was it Queens cafe outside Fawley Gate 1 roundabout? Always had a sarnie in there when on a trip to Blackfield Depot, mid 70’s. It used to be very busy, always trucks on the front but in the latter years just the odd white van man.
Hi Gazzer I think you’ll find that the Pop In was run by a fella called Pete with the tash and some time in the 80’s if memory serves that cafe got closed for a while … um yeah not to good

Hi John
Sorry for delay in posting a reply was busy all day yesterday at a CPC course then had a Burn’s night to go too early evening!
As for KHO476Y I don’t know who ran that Scania I know Marshall’s just north of Alto had a twin steer and I believe it left the road whilst pulling an STS trailer in the UK, driver blamed the twinsteer or something like that.,
No history regards the D J Light Scania 140 you posted earlier in the thread either
Regards Pat.

Hi Les
Ron spent a lot of time in Australia after he had sold Clausentum Quay, Bitterne Manor for development I think to avoid tax!!
The company he sold to used his crawler crane and moved it to the ex Pirelli site at Eastleigh for anothet development, we then collected it and stored it at Nursling for ages in fact till the development company got fed up of paying for the storage, Ron came back and sorted it out and we then moved it to his house near Botley by a railway line, even at his age he was trying a new business in importing prefabricated buildings for workshops etc from Australia in containers. I think he was still buying and importing old british motorcycles from Australia as well.
He still had loads of spares and some chassis’s for Stonefield 4X4’s (ugly military vehicles) as he had bought all their stock when they went pop!
I have not seen him for a few years now though.
Regards Pat
Hiya Tony here is one just for you mate!!!

Nice one Pat, that,s a beauty from my home town way back.
