Hi,the Guy was taken on Weymouth seafront by my pal Adrian Cypher The 110 is one of his photos too.
Cheers Bubbs,
Early '70.'s Bubbs, loading tomato’s ex Jersey possibly for Manchester / Liverpool area I’d guess, looks like a stripped down spread axle tilt.
When I was on Smith of Maddison as a shunter,we spent most of the summer there, down on the quay side, in the town centre. Would load 10 /12 trailers a day, the night men would often come down by car to collect the wagons, and the day men, like Mappo, would bring an M/T trailer down, change over, and off to where ever…Loaded a few Jameson trailers as they were part of the group…sun, sea, and…lots of roping and sheeting… …
Now i know why you are so fit in your old age Fergie, you did all the roping and sheeting and Mappo dumped behind trhe wheel,by the way have you got any snow in Brittany or do we have it all, cheers Buzzer.
now now buzzer, i did my fair shair of roping and sheeting those tomato loads
while Fergie was sunbathing on the beach.
I think i mentioned this a long time ago, but we used to load and go even on a
Saturday for scotch.
Ya see i started being away from home weekends before i started Euro work.
Hi Fergie47 been trying to get Buzzer back on two wheels so we can ride down to yours !!! hope your well Dave been out on the bike lately ■■

Best thing you can do Jimmer is get a side car fitted to yours and we’d be in buisness, cheers Buzzer.

Cor blimey Rich, give me a break…i am entitled to a rest day ya know.
Tony.Work as many days as you can because it wont be long now till you will be having every day as a rest day. Ive been retired ten years now and I`m bored stiff.(Thats not a word I use very often) I even got turned down by Buzzer
as trailer boy on his enterprise doing meals on wheels. Its all downhill from now on.Regards Charlie
Ralph did run a couple and there was a subbie from Northants with an Irish plate (North) HIL ■■? think his name was Edwin .It is true that a young lad put one of the Fodens over the side of the mountain on the N6 between Vallodolid and Madrid loaded with Kodak from Hemel Hempstead (RIP) I think the Fodens were on contract hire from a firm in Stoke on Trent as were 3 Scania 113s F ■■? TAD and several others such as an ERF L15 ETR? and several Renaults and 3 MAN 6x2 Units L ■■? JSS

Afternoon Gentlemen, I think that all the above vehicles were rented from, (initially), David Watts operation, Truck 2000, at Nuneaton. Then subsequently when David sought refuge in the Potteries, as Fenton Truck Centre, based in Knight and Rileys old yard at Fenton.
I think the Fodens came from Paul Brunning/John Ormandy at Forden Commercials at Avonmouth. The Renaults I presume when Fenton Truck Centre became Renault agents.

Hi J.D…Hope you’re well … You’re right about being fit, well in those days anyway, load /sheet / rope 10 trls a day for 6 weeks or more, kept you in shape…I believe even Mappo may have done a couple, if wasn’t too busy propping lamp posts up with his trailer !!! C another story eh Tone )… Very little snow here mate, and hope it stays that way, you’re more than welcome to it.
Jimski:
Crack on Tone !!

Hi Jim…Hope you and yours are both OK…That’d be summit else wouldn’t it, all those ex drivers on bikes, searching out the old routes, cafe’s and restaurants…sounds like a plan coming on…I’ll leave it to you to organise mate …Out on the bike last Sunday and to-day, weather pretty good, sun / cloud about 6 degrees, not cold when you’ve got the gear…

I can’t lie Tone, I’m sure I saw you with a rope in your hand at one time, I’m not sure you knew what you were doing with it thought…

Fergie…hi Dave, regarding that lamp post incident , it wasn’t,t my fault
it was the camber of the road.
Hi Dave,
Was it a Gas lamp post ? did they have electric in those days ? Hope you and Liz are ok, see you soon
If Jimski gets the trip to see you organised I’ve got a 15 seater minibus for those who don’t have a bike ! We can visit Yvette at the creperie
Regards
Richard
Hello Richard…Yep, we’re both well, and hope you and Angie are keeping fit ready for that next fun-run !!
I think you’re right now you mention it, the heat from the gas lamp made it melt and lean against his trailer…and that rope I saw him with, was to pull it back up-right…
Poor old Mappo, though we’re all gonna be nice to him this year ?
hi all you soton lads, woundered if any of you can help,im trying to trace pete clew, aca pint size, there is an old mate of his ,who lives in the USA who would like to get in touch with him, anyone who can help i would be very gratefull if you can PM me.
Hi John I had PAM108M many many years ago early 80’s I bought it from Goughs out at Donhead St Andrew near Shaftesbury we ran it on Jamesons the late Tony Burgess ‘Budgie’ drove it for me we put the diff out of a hub reduction axle in to it (Steve Beck, Jim Ski’s brotherinlaw who was a brilliant welder made the required spacer plate) it really flew would nearly do the ton!!!
I sold it to Adrian Mills who could not believe how fast it was, he sold it to a Welshman who used it on the coal convoys in South Wales around 1984.
Ken Chant RIP bought it and completely rebuilt the rusty cab I bought it back again from him when he bought a new Foden, I then gave Les the number for his wife Pam and sold it to a man who said he was going to do the Middle East with it! I never saw it again and can’t even remember the new reg it was given!
Pat heres another firm who were regulars in Southampton in the 80’s,cheers Buzzer.PS it had Merrick on the door and Jameson on top of the cab,did Jamies buy them out ?
