Hello all there seems to be a difference of opinion on the enforcement of this some say as long as you use a route thats making use of the allowed roads as much as possible its ok others say if you need to enter london controlled zones you need to get approval for the route which will last 3 years and you need to be registered in order to get the approval
You need a permit for restricted roads.
You can’t enter affected roads unless your vehicle is registered with lbts. You need to use the shortest route from an unrestricted road. Your company can request a route from lbts if they’re unsure of the shortest route
One thing I’ve never been able to ascertain is about bank hol Mondays, does it apply? I even asked a traffic cop once and he didn’t know!
Yeh, good luck with that, I delivered three containers onto southbank outside city hall, I was told to be there no later than 06.30, so to get there, I had to enter the lorry ban, now we have permits, but you have to use the shortes direct route,
I didn,t, because their version told me to turn right into Tooley St from A3200 and you cannot, it,s a buses only, so I get a fp for 65 quid, appealed, so await the outcome.

Bank holiday Monday is the same as a normal Monday
Quite like London to visit but all this makes me glad I don’t go near the place in a truck.
During the normal week it is only 6 miles to our destination, but when the restrictions come in we have to do 37 miles and through a higher residential area, it makes no science but that is the London councils for you.
I don’t do London nowadays, but did not mind it before all this bs came about in the old days.
It was devised by pricks in suits who clearly do not want us in there but endure us, so to show their authority close all the London truck parks, and come up with these schemes that make the job much harder for us, and at the same time make money for the ■■■■ s with fines.
I know that solidarity among drivers is a ■■■■ joke, but what about solidarity among hauliers, what about the RHA for instance, why don’t they just stand up to these pompous pricks at the London councils and just say ‘‘No, we aint playing these stupid ■■■■ games’’ and get these restrictions lifted, or at leased eased into realistic and reasonable terms, so we can all do our jobs once again.
I aint really interested tbh as it is all bullcrap, but are these bans and restrictions still done under the official guise of engine emissions?
How does that work exactly? we no longer drive ERF Gardners and the like, and today’s trucks are as clean as they will ever be in terms of emissions.
Yes you have to do some running around to go via the nearest approved route before getting into the restricted zone, but in practice seldom does it make a great deal of difference in time.
Its noise is the issue, and then restricted resident parking on the approved routes usually entails better progress at night.
Skip wagons and the like and fridges make a right din so you can understand them trying to keep the noisiest vehicle from the most residential routes.
I used to enjoy London deliveries up till about the mid 90’s, but if i never had to set foot or wheel within the M25 again that’ll be great.

The majority of skip wagons are 18t or less so restricted routes don’t affect them anyway. Same as any 18 ton vehicle can be as noisy as an artic of the same style.

And how much extra fuel and extra pollution does that entail? Lack of joined up thinking by the relevant authorities methinks.

It make you wonder how these supposedly intelligent people think, we have questioned it but to no avail, there just complete idiots.

Just as well VW don’t make heavy trucks then
Well Boris’s lorry ban idea is bollox , i have run in and out on roads A Roads mind you that are covered by this bs EU no doubt crap, regardless because it was the shortest and most direct route to the point of delivery from the m25 and back to it, so where the f is boris’s Or is that doris’s problem?
If his bs expects LGV’s to take a longer indirect route it is they who should be compensating hauliers for doing this not charging them

They do. MAN and Scania both owned by VW
Along with Sapper, our night lad who runs into Battersea at night (Silverthorne Rd) has picked up a £65 fpn. We’ve been running in there for must be 20 years and have only recently started having trouble with this ‘rule’. My depot have had several letters about his truck being ‘spotted’ off route and all they’ve done is ask for an explanation. Anyway, ‘The Council’ sent another letter and the company gave the drivers details to them, which is how he got the FPN. TBF, he kicked off about it and they gave him the money… Management claim they could not resolve the issue so the driver Googled the contact details of said Council, phoned them up, sorted it out, job done in 5 mins. They told him you can only divert of the ‘allowed’ roads in certain circumstances and claim the shortest route out is via the SC to M3/M4, when in fact it’s over Chelsea Bridge, left along the embankment to A4 then left and out to M4 but obviously it’s more residential that way. They also told him its up to the company to sort out the route in/out but being as our planner is a cabbage, he just passes the buck
