Loads

Without everyone getting upset with me. How is payment for owner drivers done? Is it a set price per load hauled or x amount per mile ■■?

Depends on the contract/job type. Bulk tippers are x amount per ton. Traction will be x amount per mile/km and others will be job rate for the whole trip.

Matt.

You supply the prime mover (tractor unit) company who you “pull for” supply the loaded trailers and work.

This is not a direct answer to your question, but you may find this link below interesting and helpful. It will be covered in you TM’s CPC course. As it indicates you substitute your own figures.

I am assuming you are toying with the idea of becoming an owner driver, however the way you have asked the question " how much do O/Ds get paid" really says what stage of the process you are at. Basically you do the work then invoice your customer just like any other business, what you should be asking is how much can I charge and what will a customer pay, but I think your a long way off being even near that stage yet, read the previous posts on this subject on this forum and see If its still something you would like to try.

I meant how much do u charge

And yes I know ppl say there’s no money in it. But if u ask a taxi driver like I used to be is there any money in taxis I would always say no even tho I did no1 likes competition

Also everyone has to start somewhere

If you are subcontracting then the rate will be dictated to you, not the other way around. You need to be looking at an absolute minimum of £1.40 a mile on distance (say 200+ miles) work, and that won’t butter many parsnips.

Okay cheers

Some work I price per job as it’s fairly ad-hoc and localish.

I have a regular customer who I charge per mile - gives them the ability to cost their sales - and gives me some quality in quantity - by that, I mean (as Harry said) good distance work. For me that is anything over 200 miles return, all miles paid.

One thing to remember, cash flow is key. I’ve been operating 8 weeks now and have yet to take a wage. :sunglasses:

Charge as much as you can
Any fool can put the rate down it takes a good person to put them up.
When they say Stobart , Lawsons ,Metcalf, Maritime etc will do it cheeper.
Just reply let them do it you can go bust sat on the sofa at home there is no need to chase a lorry up & down the road burning fuel to do it.
