Load bearing curtain, 100 pound fine

Rowley010:
I was just thinking about this. What’s the point in the load bearing curtain if the authorities don’t accept it as restraint if used correctly?

You are speaking as if these sort of rules bear some relavance to reality…they dont :bulb: , it’s just another official based money making scam.
A load of palletised cardboard, or these double stacked plastic empties are going nowhere, as they are bound in by the curtains, but we have to abide by these bloody stupid rules or get nicked.
It’s like ropes, they have safely secured loads for generations, but suddenlly they are deemed unsafe by these winkers. :smiling_imp:

So why did you drive 5 and half hours then mate?

Rowley010:
You were unlucky to get pulled by a copper. The load, I don’t think anyone here would have strapped every pallet if it was a load bearing curtain, and the fact he didn’t take that further probably means he knew you were right but didn’t want to admit it.

As for the infringements? Why? You say there are quite a few. Is that just you always pushing it or not planning properly or is it your company putting pressure on? Either way you need to get a grip and sort that out. A few mins over every now and again isn’t really an issue but an hour over? Come on!

not the company it’s me, I’ve had 3 breaks today , it’s great, I think it’s a new me.

As I said mate, we ALL know you get done if you don’t strap up…end of.
I think I know who that motor belongs to, and afaik they are paid per hour, and if that is so, what is the problem with strapping up for 40 or so minutes??

I reckon even if he had strapped every other pallet, the copper would have let it go, then at least he had made some attempt to secure it.

As for being pushed and pressurised ?
Well if that is the case, if the driver is daft enough to let them do that to him, he only has himself to blame when things go ■■■■ up because of it.
He can ot think much of his licence, that’s all I can say.

the 5.5 hours was a saturday running in, 2 mile from yard and hit traffic, I’m not stopping for a break there. I’ve learnt tho now, had 3 breaks today

An hour over his 4.30, hardly crime of the century is it, alot of over the top reactions on here. The Poster wont be invited to a meeting with the tc nor will he be losing his license, nor was he a danger to society deer god almity.

Your username explains your naivety.

thanks , I may the time I was thinking in the thousands for fine, but that must be the ■■■■■■■■ stories I hear every day of these drivers who have been there and worn the t shirt

All this ■■■■ about strapping pallets, load bearing curtains etc makes me so glad I’m on fridges now. 2 load bars across the last pallets and job done.[emoji41]

Why is it boring why not do a couple hours have 15 minster then do another couple hours then have 30 minster. You’ve done a hour over your time had less than 9 hours depending how many times you’ve done it m8 you could be signing on at job center. Why do people do do it. 4.30 hrs drive is the max not a target. If you’ve had a few of them vosa might pay the company a visit then you’ve ■■■■■■ it right up they will go through maintenence the job lot. Says a lot about who you work for if they have not said anything, sorry to say this m8 but you deserve everything you get

We have to be careful with our trailers. Our new ones are XL rated for both the body and the internal netting. Our older ones aren’t I don’t think. The curtains say they are XL rated but I don’t see the badge on the body of them. We have internal nets and a potnet for the back, just hang off the hooks on the rails. Today I carried 45 bags of fertilizer at 27ton. Nets all down the sides with a ratchet over the back 3 bags.

I prefer milk tanks no need for load restraints.

+1

If the OP’s trailer is XL-rated (EN12642-XL) then i’d say you have been very hard done by, I certainly wouldn’t have strapped those pallets apart from the rear like yourself. I don’t think you would have been fined if it had been DVSA that pulled you & not the police, i’d be tempted to contest it.

To be XL-rated by the way, the trailers entire construction has to be certified, you can’t just put ‘load bearing’ curtains on an old trailer frame.

No it hasn’t been dealt with. You’ve been dealt with for the 5.5hrs without a break but the rest of it will be winding its way towards the powers that hopefully have the sense to take your HGV entitlement off you permanently you ■■■■.

Morons like you are why the pay is so crap.

ryan011284:
I wouldn’t ask him, my own fault. the officers said write it down on the back of print out why to cover your back.

Cover it from what exactly? Its a bit late for back covering

He 100% is.
It reads like made up ■■■■■■■■. He also slipped up and said he’d had three breaks already today and was bored.

You worry an awful lot about the pay for someone whos (allegedly) not driving anymore. Why do you care what the wages are? You dont drive hgvs anymore (supposedly)
Do I detect a subtle slip up that conor is back behind the wheel after finding out stacking shelves for £9 an hour isnt the glamorous lifestyle we’re led to believe?

i’m glad am on flat trailers now as i got strap everything even if i cant be arsed to.
remember if the trailer doesnt have these on them the en12642-xl stickers on the trailer then it probably not load bearing curtains

How can anyone read this thread - and keep a straight face? :open_mouth:
