Lloydminster Ex-Pats?

Just wondering if any ex-pats on here live around the Lloydminster area (Alberta/Sask.border)■■ I would imagine that quite a few of you have passed through in any case. Although not yet 100% confirmed, it’s looking as though I could be heading that way after receiving a more sensible job offer.

just remember 50th ave is the line

Brentanna:

dont you mean street ? :grimacing:
remember aves are east - west
streets are north - south

Edit:- Oh wait… just checked Google maps, seems that lloydmister decided to be stupid and not stick to the conventional grid system, and decided to turn the grid thru 90 degrees. I apologise for the above, Ive only ever been to the place once, and its hard not to miss the border running thru the middle, quite a definite difference in the upkeep of property between the 2 provinces. the Sask. side is quite run down from what i remember.

Tsk tsk tsk…

Alberta snobbery there!

Although the border runs through the centre of LLoydminster the whole place is in fact in Alberta, for tax reasons etc.Only decent thing about the place is their very hospitable Rugby Club, hic

Are you talking about the “GRIM REAPERS”?

Yikes!! Some of those birds on the ladies team are enough to put the frights up Hannibal Lecter!! :open_mouth:
Bet the RCMP call them instead of SWAT!!
I know who I’d be more scared of!! :grimacing:

Joking aside, the yard is East of Vermilion so that could be another option if it all comes to fruition.

So I guess they play the proper game right?? As in union?? Never really thought about rugby in Canada, although they have a test team so I suppose there must be some kind of a following. I’m under the impression that the origins of the CFL game date back to rugby. Funny how the Grey Cup is a lot older than the Superbowl yet that sport is known throughout the world as “American Football”. I suppose the Yanks would argue that their game has different rules though. Also, if I’m not mistaken, I think Basketball’s origins can be traced back to Canada so what does that leave us with?? Hmmm?? Rounders!! Whoops! I meant to say “Baseball”. Then again that’s debatable too… English, Romainians, Russians and Germans have been playing similar folk games for centuries… Poor old Uncle Sam.

Original name of The Saskatchewan Roughriders was Regina Rugby Club, our rugby season is May until end of Sept which is the opposite of Europe. The standard is lower but in recent years funding has been made available for juniors and slowly the powers to be are seeing the light.Couple of Regina guys now playing for Glasgow Warriors.Used to play and coach back in England during the wet ,damp and cold seasons,so I now really enjoy watching the games during our summer,on the clubhouse deck with the family and a cold one,my idea of heaven,
