As far as I know, if you’ve served in a foreign military then they won’t have you, although there’s a hell of a lot of Russians over there and they all did national service, so who knows

I thought you’d spat your dummy out and weren’t going to post here anymore according to your post the other day? :grimacing:

I did leave myself an out in that rant, my feelings have not changed, I’m appalled by the PCness on here and that won’t change anytime soon, I will therefore restrict myself to this forum and the old timers one, me and the UK drivers forum are over for the present

He’s still classed as a USC Mark. The head of security in the twin towers was a brit who served in the british army then joined the US army to serve in Vietnam, he went on to become a USC.

Mark,I read your article about Dinosaur trucks in Truck West,a good read, how long have you been writing for them ? While I agree with your article,I’ll bet your viewpoint would change if you became on o/o and had to pay for your own fuel, deffo be after a Pete like Moyles drives then.

My first one was the one you read in the Feb issue, I’ve got a monthly column plus extras as and when they come up, glad you liked it

You’re spot on with not buying my truck too, mpg is not great, it could be better, I could get it up to a reasonable level by slowing down to 60mph and making a few changes, things like better fuel filter system to increase flow (which somehow increases mpg) synthetic oils and lower rolling resistance tyres, that would get it to 7mpg US and that’s a money maker.

It’s not just that though, we’re looking at a possible change in driver’s hours laws and maybe the introduction of EOBRs, that may have a major impact on the ability for an O/O to make money, so I’m going to sit back and see how things shape up before I even consider it, even then I may stick at what I’m doing now, I’ve run my own before and unless I can earn significantly more than I am now, the headaches just ain’t worth it.

One thing I can guarantee though, unless my wages double, you’ll never catch me driving a plastic girl’s lorry like Moyles

It’s the way forward. All those flat edges, air intakes and stacks by the doors. You ought to contact Trappers and ask how their fuel consumption has changed since moving to "modern"trucks,a big saving over 12 months, would be an interesting article?
New truck in my yard, hold your breath,Peterbilt,it gets worse, four wheeler, even worse, auto !!! What a pile of garbage.I spend most of my life bouncing or stuck in construction sites, just smile and take the money   ,it’ll be gone soon.Never thought I’d miss a Sterling :unamused:

Mark … Your truck has the aerodynamics of a garden shed so there’s not much that will increase the MPG

I wouldn’t become a O/O for all the tea in china. There are some on my company but I see how hard they have to work to make a living, working weekends and 6 or 7 days a week. Whats the point in working all those hours and earn so much money and have no private life to enjoy it ?

I did a short spell as self employed and with taxes (still getting bills) and other expences it worked out that I actually made a pittifull 19c a mile.
My very last self employed trip before joining Foodliner I left home and loaded near Rochester NY ran down to Miami FL, sat 2 days at a nursary in Homestead FL reloading for 6 drops in Arkansas and Springfield MO, picked up the trucks owner to drive team on the way and reload again for CT before being dropped in Albany NY and having enough … I was away 10 days and recieved a cheque for $450 for it.
DON’T DO IT.

The days of O/Os running 379s & the like, are nearly over, with a fuel surcharge keeping fuel costs at $1.25 a gallon, the switched on O/Os are realising that as fuel prices go up, they can make even more money with a truck that gets good fuel mileage, at current fuel prices an 8mpg truck will mean that you’re being paid to put free fuel in the tanks, now that seems like a good deal to me :sunglasses: but that means an aerodynamic truck, which my Pete is clearly not, it would also mean an older pre emission Detroit engine, for their lower maintainance costs and superior MPG, so I’d be swapping getting paid a decent wage to drive a classic long nosed Pete with a hill flattening CAT engine for a manky 10yr old Freightliner, for a few dollars more, if I’m lucky, not such a tough decision for me

Duck Dodgers only likes his 379 for the vibration to help him get his column up a bit more than once a month

My Pete is the future and he knows it, can`t wait till he gets one with them nice little spectacles on the front

I also find that with it being so much better on fuel, that i can go a lot faster and keep the fuel the same as the 379`s that we have,
or am i missing the point about having a more aerodynamic motor  anyhow i am home a lot quicker now

Saying that your bonsai Pete is the future is the same as saying, it’s not the size, it’s what you do with it, the only people that say that are the people with little dicks, real men drive 379s :sunglasses:

So you heard that discussion about him as well then, Mark■■?

it’s not the size, it’s what you do with it,

I thought that was the male motto
